As I posted back in late December, the one time in my life I holed out for eagle from the fairway I was using a ProV. I never use ProVs, blt it was given to us in the goodie bags at the start of a fundraising scramble.
When I got to the green I saw the ball mark and realized that the ball had backed up into the hole. I am 100% sure that would not have happened with a cheap 2-piece ball.
Flip side of that coin is that I have landed expensive balls 15 feet short of the hole and rig the on line on a par three and watched them check up, leaving me a 12-foot putt. On those occasions, I was pretty sure a cheap-ass ball would have left me with a tap-in birdie.
I guess what I am saying is that if I were to switch to a higher quality ball, I would have to adjust my approach shots and pitches accordingly, and at least try to get them all the way to the hole, rather than landing them short and allowing them to run up.
