TheBlade I wanted to build a couple smaller clubs for my nephew and I think he would benefit from the lighter weight of graphite shafts. I have some hybrid type irons that I wanted to build but I don't have any .370 graphite shafts.... I do have a bunch of .335 graphite and a few .350 and .355 graphite. Without any brass shims or bushing ferrules, any suggestions for a homemade shim ?
pellmell Aluminum can is clean and works well, specifically if you plan to pull the shaft in the future.
Bankshot I've used the beer can method several times with good results. Just be sure to toughen both sides and thoroughly smear both with epoxy. And, yes, full cans are the best, unless they become empty and need to be replaced...and so on. 🙂
glebert First club I ever built was with a 0.335" shaft I pulled from an Orlimar Trimetal FW (0.370" hosel). That one had fine copper wire wrapped around the tip for a shim.
Rickochet Another option is to cut a 1/8" wide strip of masking tape and do a candy cane wrap on the tip. Use shafting beads also and you are good to go.
TheBlade Rickochet Can I assume you've had success with this? I can feel a little more comfort in knowing my six year old nephew doesn't have a 115 MPH swing speed.
Rickochet TheBlade Can I assume you've had success with this? I have actually never tried that but this used to posted frequently by others on FGI that have tried. I have used the brass "finger shims" and they are a bit of a PITA to use. If you use homemade or bought finger shims fit the shim on the shaft dry and put it in to set the ferrule. Then pull it out then add your glue. If you don't you will end up with a gap between the hosel and the ferrule. My favorite shims are the one piece shim/ferrule combo. Easy to use and less mess.
