  • Next project Ping Eye 2 refurbishing

I picked up two sets of swamp dipped mix and matched eye2 and plus irons for cheap. Blaming Steve.
Cleaned up best picks of the bunch & hit big bucket at the range yesterday . Easy to hit, and work directions , suprised that distance wasn't a club shorter. Center strikes feel good as anything , toe hits sting some. Zz lite shafts feel good to me but I like soft grips and Prosofts. Red dot may or may not work as I was fit into black dot Pings 5-6 yrs ago. Going to gredo that since I've changed. Probably look for cheap graphite pulls too.

Get the heads wet and then cover them in Barkeeper's Friend powder - create a white muddy mix coating all over them. It has Oxalic Acid and will remove the tarnish. Let them sit and stew for a while and then scrub real hard with a Scotchbrite green pad. Rinse them and dry them. They will be as bright as they are going to be.

Or, send them to this guy in Georgia. His job is as good as PING factory and it's $4/head cheaper. They will come back like new.

I have another set of Eye 2 Blue Dots headed my way. Gonna make the real pretty and shaft em up - might play em!

        Provisional

I was a club shorter but had the Microtaper shafts...might have made a difference. My spin though was just too much combined with the fact that after 30 years of use God knows what the lofts and lies are now. About the red dot/black dot.... I wouldn't pay too much attention since the clubs are 30 years old, probably been hit off of mats... God knows what the lie angle actually is now.

I was playing green dots which would be 4 off of my static measurement. Right now I'm at standard and get the same marks on the lie board as my old becu green dots. Gotta figure they say to have your lofts and lies checked every few years...its been 30.

          Typhoon

I doubt the lofts and lie angles move much on those old cast rock-hard heads. I think you could pound brick walls with them for 20 years and the specs would be close. 😊

sdandrea1 my budget includes Bar Keeper or his friend Michelob ultra. That was my first clean up effort . Shaft of PW was short and head fell off. Glad I didn't swing it . Pulled 3 iron shaft for donor , epoxy setting tonight. Got to pick up some midsized grips for them. Even their look is becoming less hideous ...

              Provisional

They were never hideous. 😊 I just got back from Ocala. Now I own a set of green dot Eye 2 irons with TT S300 tapers in them. These were already shiny and clean. I paid more than $27, tho. 😏 I blame Karsten.................

Is shaft spec .355 tapered? I put caliber on pulled shaft from 3 iron, didn't detect change in diameter along tip

Green Dot, Red Dot, Black Dot. What color is actually considered standard specs? I guess I never knew what color signified what loft/lie combination.

Pw is eye+ but I'm liking turf interaction it has. When I get some decent grips on them. I'll be able to tell more but I think I've already decided I like the clubs. Tried 3 iron on a lark , don't believe I can go back to them.
