Rickochet Same. Was 20/25 at pre-commissioning physical and the AF have me a waiver. Then the injury and received another waiver, which was unheard of for a ROTC guy. (I won a national award in ROTC that year, think this helped) Especially my year of '79. I was in the largest year for UPT--typical carry over from Vietnam build up days. They busted guys out for showing up late, it was brutal.

Still have 2 stitches in my eye they could not get out after in for 6 months.

I kept the physical paperwork signed by the AF Surgeon General for couple years as it was challenged my first 3 years at physical time.

I was surprised though at how many guys got glasses while there, getting in was the hard part.

      A local guy, a former Major League baseball player who played in a world series with the Royals, stuck a screwdriver threw his eye. They took him 90 miles or so to Cleveland to have it removed. He somehow regained his sight and still lives a few miles from me. He was also the first base coach for the Boston Red Socks.

          jsippy73 I was fortunate it flew in and essentially rebounded back out. Collapsed my eye while draining the fluid out down my face. Did not look right when I looked in the mirror. Was close to the ARMY helicopter training (former Ft Rucker) unit with their top ophthalmologist on duty. 7 stitches to close the hole. Was awake throughout the surgery.

          21, senior year of school and found myself thinking if the AF will still allow me on active-duty with single vision. Then thinking I should have paid more attention to the courses. 😎 BS Computer Science

            My class of 73-09 was called the Short Timers since they cut our class time to 52 weeks. I still have a class arm patch.

                Rickochet I was 81-04 at Columbus. first class with women at Columbus--they had weekly updates on their status in the Base paper. They got many extra looks (one was good looking, one had a mustache), but the men were ejected weekly. No wash backs. We had 2 Saudis too, they also had many breaks.

                When I arrived in April of '80. they still had the Iranians in the BOQs while the US was deciding what to do with them, they stopped training well before that but whole families plus their goats were in Billeting.

                How long was UPT? When I went, it was 49 weeks of training not counting holidays.

                      Anybody can "fly" it with one eye closed it's the takeoffs and landings that it becomes an issue.

                        sdandrea1 Yes, but only in a nuclear conflict. Very rare sir. They went to these in place of the eye patch. Pretty cool. Too expensive to foul up but did wear them a few times in exercise.

                            azgreg azgreg Had my first post 60 physical. I'm now on Tamsulosin for my prostate and Lisinopril for my blood pressure along with a blood pressure machine for dailey testing.

                            And now I'm also on Atorvastatin.

                            A little update. When I first tested my bp was 181/84. Today it is 104/62.
                            I believe I started to have a reaction to the statin. My face started feeling like it had a massive razor burn going on and I was feeling like I just couldn't get comfortable no matter what. I stopped taking it and am seeing the doctor tomorrow.

                                    I take CoQ10 as well. My brother is inherently against taking anything. I think he might try Repatha if his doc approves. Thanks, tho!
