Last time I was on a plane I went to Costa Rica for a mission trip with the church youth group. That was back in the early 90s. Haven't had any reason to fly since. Looks like I'll be flying later this year. Hopefully no connecting flights to be screwed up. Otherwise i prefer to drive.
Eguller Agree, was averaging 150+k air miles each year for abut 13 years at current job, no more. I drive now. However, have 2.6M air miles to use plus 2M Marriott points to use. Goes both ways.
Have no desire to fly again. Hate the airport hassle and maybe it's my imagination, but there seems to be more and more accidents that make the natl news the last 2 or 3 yrs
sdandrea1 Would have expected you guys drive down since use to the travel. I lived in Richmond when I was with American Airlines, not a lot of options flight wise. Liked Richmond though, so I moved to the DC area of course when I quit AA.
Just got home. Been on my ass in a car or airport seat or airplane seat all day and got nowhere other than a huge multi-modal loop back to my house. If we do this again, we're driving to the port the day before.
My wife and I have a cruise coming up in the fall. The port we’re sailing out of is in Spain. So we’re getting there a few days early just to visit locally before we board the ship.
We had a near miss one year and decided it best just to get to the port a day early. Takes the stress out of it.
Costco. My wife was obsessed with restarting a membership with them. One of the stupidest things she's ever done. I probably haven't felt that depressed and angry in 20 years. Paying $65 so you can pay more for your groceries seems like a really dumb thing to do.
There wasn't one good deal I saw in the entire store. Nothing. Maybe the 100" TV from Hisense. Everything edible was a you gotta be kidding me moment. Walmart is much cheaper than Costco. Every person I passed by I thought was a moron for being there.
Out of eggs. Had nothing I eat or wish to consume. Checkout guy says if you want eggs you have to come first thing in the morning because that's the only way to get them. Black Friday for eggs when you're paying 65 dollars to overpay.
Well at least there was the hotdog and very berry sundae. Nope. Out of vanilla yogurt. Just left in a rage. Utterly disgusted by what Costco has become and will never go back. Wife was embarrassed to be around me I was so pissed off muttering about the store looking at what things cost there. Just the icing on the cake to have no eggs and no sundae. There is literally no reason for me to ever return. If they would've given us half the membership fee back I would've gladly taken it and never returned.
My wife loves it. So excited to be back there. She thinks if she overpays by a few dollars on something it's a great deal because it's Costco and not Walmart.
I don't care if they switch to free Pepsi or free Coke. Costco is a joke.
Hey we saved 23 cents a gallon on gas. I should've covered myself in it and lit a match.
We like COSTCO for certain things. Vitamins, and supplements, pre-packaged easy-to-cook meals, hearing aids (for us both now), laundry stuff, M&Ms (peanut of course, in those large plastic jars), batteries, cereal. There's probably more, and I do try to go on Sunday just before they close. The place is deserted.
That's when we were there an hour before close when I got my pic taken for my new membership. I wish they would've taken it after I shopped. Double-barrel birdies.
I'm glad you find value there. My wife thinks this is a grocery store. You buy 4 items and it's 60 bucks. 15 dollars for 1lb of cubed salmon? Super deal.
The way my wife's mind works is she was thirsty. What does she do? Buys a 40-pack of Kirkland bottled water. We don't do bottled water in our house. Makes great sense when you're thirsty to buy 40 bottles of water when you need just one becuse it's such a good deal.
I knew I should've just hung out by the TVs and waited to see her get the highlighted receipt and I would've been so much happier.
sdandrea1 I’ve only been to Costco twice. Like BJ’s, everything you buy is the “OMG size” so it’s a lot of money, but you won’t need to rebuy anytime soon. If you look at the unit price it’s usually a good deal. We bought a big assed thing of Tide pods which came out to half the price of us buying at the grocery store. My protein powder 5 lb bag was less than half of why I paid for my last 5lb container from Walmart.
There was no protein powder. That was one thing I was looking for. I came home and compared and found Walmart was better on most everything broken down to cost per ounce. Wife's response, "Yeah, but Costco is better." But, she wouldn't buy a rotisserie chicken at Costco because "Walmart's are better due to all the chemicals they put in them."
What protein powder do you buy? I walked around that section 2 times and only saw the pre-made bottles that I guess people love more than making their own.
