Can't imagine one round swinging harder than normal would creep into my regular swing. Maybe if you were playing in one once a week, but once or twice a season, no way

I think they're fun,let the weaker players get one in play and let the longer hitters try to bust one.
In our weekly league we usually play a 2 man scramble format once a month.

darpar it's a fantastic way to introduce a new player to the game. They will get to try every shot, and not be punished for their bad shots.

I was in one scramble this summer mainly because my wife's employer does one and it's a great cause.
That said there isn't one aspect I can say is fun about them except for maybe the meal and a couple of beers.

Buying f(cking mulligans is just the top of the iceberg...

Scrambles are 'teams' not 'individuals', so not sure why anyone can't enjoy them. There is no pressure on any single player. And with some of the shit that goes on within your group/watching others, it should be nothing less than a fun time. We all do them for charity, fund raising, or company outings, for the most part. Thus it should never be taken as 'serious' golf.

And yes, we can call it golf. Much the same as we call the Ryder Cup 'golf'!!

Played in one last month and it may well be the most enjoyable time I've spent with anyone in a couple years. And it was wet, raining, cold. And for those that do not know me.....those are 3 things I simply hate in life.....individually, so when combined...sheesh😖.

I don't understand this comment. Ryder Cup - match play is the epitome of golf, as it was meant to be played competitively. No?

Many times if there is already a really good shot I will try to do too much and make a horrible swing. It's a free swing, but then you try to be perfect and that's not golf.

I will tend to play better if I play with better golfers as I'll go first and there's no pressure. Lately I have been playing with worse golfers (how is that possible?) and with many times nothing in play I'm forced to just play the normal safe shot I would play on my own ball.

I find it tough to focus in some scrambles too. They can take 5-6 hours and I won't turn down a beer or 2. That last one was fun once I stopped hitting 4th and started hitting 2nd. It seemed like 2 of the guys were feeling pressure to put something in play for me (and they weren't) and once I started hitting before them they loosened up.

I look at scrambles that I have been in as social events with 6 hour rounds and the majority over served plus a lot of cheating so that's just my perspective. I am sure others opinions differ from mine and maybe they enjoy that kind of way to spend a day.

I live on a golf course and have the opportunity to watch Scrambles all the time. My goodness, folks become so stupid in their game management. More often than not, the group gets a better than average tee shot. Regardless, their abilities are put to the challenge on approach shots. This becomes especially true on par 5's. Groups go for the green in 2 and then put their whole group into "short-game mode". That's when they really suck!
I don't hit greens in 2 on par 5's. But, ideally I like to set myself up for a nice full-swing approach. I also don't care to hit my longest club for that second shot. Yeah, it sometimes feels silly to pull an 8 iron for my second shot. But, all in all, that lay-up tends to bring out my best, and least pressured swing. LOL

I just played in a scramble today. I think a big part of a scramble has to do with knowing your "role" on the team.
Today we had a 90 shooter and three guys who play about like I do, but the other two are younger and longer than
I am. So the 90 shooter led off on each hole, I followed him with the sole thought of trying to hit the fairway. Once he or I did that, the other two guys could swing away with the idea of getting it out there well past us.

It worked pretty well....we finished 10 under on a pretty breezy day....but we lipped out a couple of birdie putts just around the edge. I think 12 under won it.....still a good time!!

fatshot I want to play where you do, anymore it seems like a sharp pencil is the best tool to win. It takes the fun out of it for me. The best I’ve ever been a part of was a legit -14 and we got accused of cheating. I took that with pride 😂 (back in the good ole days with a long driver in hand, really shortened the course). To see multiple people posting low 50s and some into the 40s, I call bullshit, but that’s what most are these days. I don’t even want to play anymore. Yes, I’m that way; if I can’t win, I don’t wanna play and I’m not going to cheat to do it.

DC300 Yeah, I'm almost to the point where I don't play in scrambles much any more either. This one appealed to me b/c of the guys I was playing with, the course where it was played was local, and I found out they didn't do all the BS like "buying mulligans," "buying string," etc., etc.....Just what your team could manage to shoot.
Also, it was an older guys group , who I THINK (hope?) are less inclined to cheat.....

sdandrea1 amen to that. I’m so tempted to run down a rabbit hole in this, but I’m going to leave it at this; when people are deciding for themselves what is right/wrong, good/bad, real/fantasy and no longer hold any value in the hard truths of life, all hell breaks loose and here we are. There IS a right and wrong in this world, it’s not all gray, it’s not what is most convenient to your current mood and it’s not about what makes a particular group feel special for the moment. We need to get back to that hard line and quit trying to avoid offending anyone.

I play in 1 a year, for a good friend.

Our Best has been a -11, didn't even finish in "A" Flight. However, I did ace a par 4 and got 1/2 the skins. Seems that was the ONLY Time they did Front 9 Back 9 Skins.

Still $600 to split with the team!

CallMeAl -11 is solid and an ace on a 4 is awesome! I’ve been on the green for a handful of 4’s, never threatened the hole though.
