These are typically for charity fundraising purposes so I play in several.
I dont look at the time spent as being put out personally ( that would be selfish) but as a means to help others and causes that need assistance.
raffles, mulligans and games are all just mechanisms to add $$$ to the cause. I will buy an arm's length two of raffle tickets and participate in all the games to help the cause.
most have a live or silent auction at/after dinner as well for larger value items like trips, sports tickets, jerseys etc....i will bid but 99% of the time the bids go above the value of the item....which is great for the charity....but not for me. I did last year win a weekend at a really nice cottage valued at $1200 and only paid $400. Ended up selling it to a friend for the$400. I also won a signed NHL jersey once , coincidentally it was $400 as well.
We recently had a big charity event at my course, $5000 per foursome. There were no extras being sold and everything was free, many holes had food vendors, a cigar store with free cigars, lots of booze vendors with freebies.
