Keeping the club in front of me never worked. Terrible advice for a steep swinger. Just gets you more steep.
Shallowing has been huge for me. I just could never do it before. No matter how I try my right elbow goes behind me. But I've realized that it doesn't matter.
I can shallow the shaft with just feels. I feel the shaft swing back below my shoulder. Then just swing down below my shoulder. The feel is my right arm drops down my right side or even behind me and not out in front of me actually..
Some swing thoughts that work for me are swing under, skim a stone across the pond, try and swing the shaft down behind me. It's impossible for me to get too far under plane. Some Pros have that problem, but not me.
I've always been too steep. Harry Vardon's feel was try and swing the club down towards his right heel. Any of these feels work for me.
As the video says, Pros drop their trail arm lower (twice as much) than hackers. The key word their is lower. That's what you need to concentrate on and not keeping the club in front of you. It's not an easy move to do naturally.
Lowering is precisely the feel I have. But my right arm lowers beside me and not in front. It actually feels like I'm trying to lay the shaft down horizontally right beside me or even behind me.
Whatever your feel or however you do it. The goal is to get the shaft in line as much as you can with your trail forearm halfway down into impact.
However, for many who swing steep to begin with swinging the club back out in front of you will get you steeper.
