azgreg Screw taking care of a house, I want to live in a place like that!

Seymore101 Maybe not so funny story....

When I was there, I lived alone , had nothing else to do so I literally was at work all day long. Started in the golf shop where we literally held tee times "hostage" for big tipping guests like one time Willie Nelson and his band came out to play, unannounced.

Gave lessons for a third of the day and played gambling golf games with other professional staff. You know, putting chipping, wedge shots, etc. Summer was BRUTALLY hot but I had nothing else to do.

One day, the Superintendent was in the shop asking if anyone wanted to help out at dusk. Of course, it was me.

I don't remember the hole number, but it was right off Highway 15 there.

The job at hand was to get rid of what he referred to as "Coots". I now know them as "Mud Hens". Turns out either they did damage, chased off regular or desirable birds. I still don't know.

So he hands me a huge rifle BB Gun shooting .177 caliber pellets and says, here you go, get rid of them.

He drives a quarter of the way to my left and we started.

At first, I thought just the noise would do the job. Nope.
Then I thought spraying them with water from the shot would get rid of them. Nope.

So here we were, 9pm shooting Coots.

Well, a guy that lived on the course wasn't too thrilled and called the police.

Long story shorter.... We end up sitting at the station house to "cool off".

No charges, no cuffs, no paperwork, Nothing. just two of us sitting in the hallway on a couple of nice black padded chairs.

two hours later, the cop says... You know what you guys were doing was wrong? - As he is talking to us, my head turns to the right and I am staring at the Super as if you say.... "Did YOU know it was wrong?"

Laughing, the cop tells us... Just get outta here, but I will be there to play tomorrow....

Never been to Vegas. My sisters are planning a fall meeting out there, but I'm not sure we're going yet. So far my only time in Nevada was a weekend step across the border into Laughlin. I thought it was a nice little town and enjoyed my stay.

johnnydoom And on the other side of that coin, you have Vegas,

My brother has and is still living there, almost 40 years. The stories a absolutely frightening.

    I haven't been back in 35 years.

I've only been to Vega for tradeshows. Amazingly in all those time only golfed there once and never gambled.

Damn, you guys are making me feel like I'm the big time Vegas high roller. I've been there enough times that I have a preferred hotel/ casino (southpoint), and have dropped a few bucks every time I'm there. Most of the time it's just $5.00, I'm a cheap bastage, and I've got better things to piss away my $$ on.
It is a good place to stay away from, 'Lost Wages' is.

Went to Vegas in 77, 78, 80 / 81 (New Years) and 86. It’s all changed now. Back then the old original name Hotels / Casinos were still there.

Happened to be there in 1978 when ventriloquist Edgar Bergen (Charlie McCarthy), Candace Bergen’s father died at Caesar’s Palace. Was staying across the street.

Biggest draw back then was Wayne Newton. Also saw Don Rickles and Dianna Ross. Back then you could get single deck blackjack and card counters weren’t a big problem. You could sneak under the radar.

I miss Vegas - haven't been there in about 10 years I think. I used to go 1-2X/year over a 5-6 year stretch just to play low stakes texas holdem. Always stayed in old vegas and played at Binions, living off vodka red bulls and the Main St station buffet - good times! Favorite moment was playing limit poker at binions and it was around 2 or 3 in the morning. There was a guy down on his luck at the table and telling everyone how sad and lonely he was and there happened to be a pimp at the table. The pimp of course seizes the opportunity of loneliness and brokers a deal with the guy right at the table - I remember him offering various options lol - blonde, brunette, asian, mexican, black, two girls, a really tall girl etc. Probably sounds lame now but I was drunk in vegas so every story is a great story!

We go once a year, twice once in awhile. I get lots of perks from taking my Dad to the local MGM here in Detroit. He uses my card so I get free airfare for both of us, rooms and food. Just pay for a rental car and golf. I love desert/mountain golf.

    SMT

Played that course once. Longest round ever. 6+ hours due to the 4 groups ahead of us being a bachelor party. They finished as a 16some on 18 as we waited 20 minutes to hit our approach shots. I will never go back.

Mattyv I can imagine. Arcis is the managing company and they have turned the best courses around me to shit.

azgreg My wife was just made the new store manager for one of the Las Vegas Dillard's. Moving there the first of May.

My wife's old store manager (Desert Sky Mall in SW Phoenix) called her the other day to say she was retiring in 3 weeks. The district manager asked her if my wife would be interested in taking over.

She can list her terms and see what happens. Nothing to lose. Your job still there, right?

See if they’ll buy her a house out there… she lives there, you live in Vegas and then on weekends do congeal visits!!😂

It's conjugal, John. 😵‍💫😉. If they get together to visit and congeal, that's a different thing altogether.🤣
