After my recent purchase of a set of irons from Cllub Champion, like was given a few Trackman sessions. Driver is the worst club in my bag, and has been for many years. I have a lot of drivers, but I keep going back to my 2007 TM Burner, as it seems to be a little more reliable for me, although I continue to be prone to high right spinny drives that go nowhere.
I went out to Club Champion with the idea of figuring out which driver worked best for me, and i learned a few things. The first was that there is a reason I go back to the Burner, and it's because it is the best of my current drivers for me, although it is very spinny (average was about 3800 rpm).
The second thing I learned was that the reason they gave me free Trackman time is that they wanted to sell me more stuff.
Now, as to the results of the fitting, it was pretty much the exact opposite of what I would have predicted. I did best with a very tip-stiff shaft and with a low-spin head. The best shaft for me was, of course, also the most expensive. It was a Mitsubishi Tensei 1K Pro Orange 60 in S flex. He said this shaft was also counterweighted. When I asked about less expensive tip-stiff shafts, he said there weren't any with this degree of tip stiffness that were also counterweighted. I don't know if that is true, nor do like know if I really need the counterweight.
I did really well with one of the Ping heads, but slightly better with the Callaway AI Smoke Triple Diamond, which is, I guess, the low-spin version of the AI-smoke. Total swing weight was D7.
They wanted $933 plus $56 tax. Um.... no.
So this is where you guys come in. I am hoping that you can steer me to a cheaper price for this same shaft or a cheaper shaft that has similar characteristics. And maybe tell me what low-spin heads are out there that are maybe a year or two older, so I can spend less money.
I do really need a new driver, but I don't want to spend more than maybe $450 or $500 on it, and they wanted $450 for the shaft alone.
So, please help me, golf gurus, to fix my driver game but at a lower cost!!! Any and all thoughts, and especially assistance, is appreciated.
