Okay a number of good Points and info. I'm thinking of trying to isolate a few and see if they will correct some issues. For example, weight forward to reduce swaying, etc.

I wish I would be able to walk 9, but the Doc doesn't see that happening with all the scaring. I am off the 02 for the most part.

Spent some time on YouTube, not something I do very often. I think JV and TS have some good points that fits my swing but I'm more in the Sparks ballpark.

I'm headed to the simulator and see what swing shows up today.

Martee I'm more in the Sparks ballpark.

Martee check out Trish Beucher a De La Torre/Jones devotee. The string on a tennis ball is Ernest Jones idea of a pocket knife on a handkerchief. This kind of tempo/transition swing is Sparks/De La Torre. Takes the "hit" out of the swing. Whippy Tempomaster also same idea.

This might be the most body friendly swing there is. Yes, it’s ugly. But some people use it and they are playing golf.

DonM Yep it's fugly but if it works for said golfer oh well go with it. There are plenty of fugly swings on the golf course. 😁 I wouldn't say Bryson's swing is a thing of beauty. We all can't look like Sam Snead.

scotts33 If it comes down to me having to use that swing in order to play golf, I’ll do it. Same goes for the red tees. I’m convinced that playing golf helps you live longer.

That may be the best option for me. I will give that a try. I noticed that he was using a very strong grip with both thumb "v's" pointed to his right shoulder. I might put a bag over my head though.

Rickochet I might put a bag over my head though.

          Hahaha!

When you think of all the swings you've seen on the course in your life, who's really going to notice?

Today I was messing around in the garage with the Jack Kuykendall inspired swing. I just pictured "stillness" like what Jim Venetos teaches. Swing the club back/up with the elbows bending, then smack the ball. No attempting to turn. The body does turn some, of course. More so on the forward swing. At the bottom I swear it is as fast or faster than my pathetic swing. Gonna have to get to the range tomorrow and see what happens on real shots. This swing would take a lot of pressure off my arthritic right big toe, and spare my arthritic neck from some twisting.

Would it be good for a bad shoulder? Hard to tell. Maybe. @Rickochet

I made a video of my idea for this swing. There isn't a lot of shoulder turn. Not much of any turn. Mostly arms. It's not pretty but I've seen worse. The "divot" is in the right place and pointing the right direction.

I see much of what my swing was prior to my most recent lesson this past Friday…not bad by any means and a motion that is probably fairly consistent…but is more than likely robbing you of speed and maybe some better “flushed” ball striking consistency. My pro has me working on slowly pushing that takeaway straight back more with shoulder plane turn only and then hinging towards the back end…it seems to help avoid that quick pulling of the left arm across your torso on the backswing…proper execution of this move will naturally just make you turn your shoulders more easily (which I honestly found surprising) and able to then just fire through the downswing with a more in to out to in path (i.e. arc) with a forward leaning shaft and with less effort …but for me it still just feels so damn weird after all the time of swinging a certain way & the muscle memory involved…but I am already seeing some good progress as awkward as it sometimes feels and I just need to stick with it to break some of my bad habits 👍

VigilanteTrail Yeah, change is damn hard. I don’t use the swing shown in the video. It’s my attempt at doing what Jack Kuykendall teaches. It’s supposed to be good for people whose bodies can’t make a conventional swing.

I’m surprised that it seemed faster than I thought would. I want to try it on the range and see.

DonM I just pictured "stillness" like what Jim Venetos teaches.

FWIW, "Stillness" is my only thought on my backswing. I try to imagine the left leg as the "pivot point" of my swing,
and imagine everything revolving around that. I don't think I did it very well on the back nine yesterday, LOL, b/c the old body was pretty stiff and sore by that time.

It sure did seem that way 👍

I am beginning to realize that I don't play or practice enough to be able to have a swing with a lot of moving parts that have to be timed up. I keep trying, but it seems like a losing battle.

DonM I would think that would be an argument in favor of the Venetos swing. I've been using it 7-8 years, and IMO it's pretty much low maintenance......No weight shift to speak of, so not as many moving parts.
                      YMMV, of course.

fatshot @fatshot how do you work on keeping your shoulders close thru impact? That was the one issue I have had with JV. Otherwise set up, keep still, no over thinking swing the club.

scotts33. I've tried, but I don't think about the shoulders....what I do try to visualize is turning the breastbone or sternum back and through while keeping the butt of the club pointing right at it (the sternum). When that doesn't work right, I tend to pull shots, but when it IS working, I hit it pretty straight. Playing the ball a bit further back, towards the middle of the stance helps. For some reason trying to think about the shoulders has never worked for me.....

I notice JV plays from a very closed stance. Maybe that's how he keeps the shoulders 'closed.' But. when I have tried closed stances, I tend to come over the top eventually.
