Yeah, this is a thread on the Super Bowl. But yesterday in Kansas City there was another mass shooting that ruined the parade to celebrate the Chiefs Super Bowl win.

As we can see by some of the posts some want to keep their head in the sand and deflect why we continue to have mass shootings. We’ve normalized mass shootings / gun violence. We blame myths for this uniquely American phenomenon.

Again, no need to worry. By the time this thread peters out they’ll be more mass shootings. And we’ll continue to accept this as a normal thing and use scapegoats to make some of us feel better as to why these mass shootings continue to happen.

So yeah, move it out of sight / out of mind to the water hazard so we’re not reminded how we are such a sick fucking country to continue to not do anything about this sick perverted fetish this country is addicted to.

Mass shootings / gun violence should be like vaccines and treated like a public health / safety issue.

Par4QC Yet you do.... then feel the, somewhat, dire need to make disparaging comments about the posters.

That's not accurate. I more have a tendency to question a poster, in this case you. How many sexual partners make my daughter a "ho", in your judgmental terms? I asked the question. The answer is none of my damn business. You might figure it out one day.
"Slut is an English-language term for a person, usually a woman, who is sexually promiscuous or considered to have loose sexual morals. It is predominately used as an insult, sexual slur or offensive term of disparagement." Yeah, you be the judge on what other's morals should be. Got it.

Sneakylong “Republicans have spent the past two years accusing Democrats of trying to defund police departments. But the facts show that the police have not been defunded. In fact, not only have Democrats put more money into policing since fiscal year 2019, but they also spend more on policing than Republican-run cities. Here are the facts that disprove this myth:

And, again for those misinformed and ill-informed, there's factual data that indicates that African-Americans are even more in favor of a greater number of police officers in their urban communities. They want safer communities too. Too many Americans have little understanding of the connection between poverty, education, and crime. And, their authoritarian response simply targets symptoms and not the root cause of the problem.

Sneakylong Mass shootings / gun violence should be like vaccines and treated like a public health / safety issue.

Sneaky, that was well-stated and just accurate! Per usual, I can't help but cringe with regard to your last suggestion. Par for the 'vaccine course'? We know where that will end up. Interesting that those who fall in the short-sighted and allegedly 'more-informed' camp will land on this issue as well. Hey, at least I tied my comment to "golf". LOL

I never used to even think about the possibility of gun violence happening to our family at outings. Now..........

sdandrea1 I never used to even think about the possibility of gun violence happening to our family at outings. Now........

Unfortunately you have think about it. It’s human nature to think it can’t happen to me though.

Yesterday a mother and her adult daughter were interviewed after the shooting. The mother said this was her second mass shooting experience.

A friend of mine, ex-military, a while back asked me a rather pointed question. He expressed curiosity as to why there had been hardly any press or follow-up on the massive Las Vegas massacre. Happened in 2017 and there was massive amount of carnage. Why was there limited media reports and/or follow-up about it?! My friend was insinuating that there was some degree of cover-up.

          professor

Not aware of any coverup. The point of my post about the mother saying this was her second experience with a mass shooting, is that they have become so common place that someone could experience more than one of these horrific events.

Sneakylong so sad to think about this. Not surprising given the u.s population is about 4% of world population but own almost 50% of guns.

              propman

Yeah, we have more guns than people. But the issue is that nothing will ever change unless the public finally has had enough and demands change.

Doubt it will happen in my lifetime. So unfortunately it’ll be Groundhog Day regarding gun violence / mass shootings for the foreseeable future.

Apparently the shooting was just crime as usual in Kansas City. No mugshots, no press waiting outside suspect’s house to ask relatives what kind of monsters they raised🤷

Somebody tell me, when is the last, most recent time that the citizens of this country united and pushed a significant referendum - of any sort?!

johnnydoom Apparently the shooting was just crime as usual in Kansas City. No mugshots, no press waiting outside suspect’s house to ask relatives what kind of monsters they raised🤷

Question: Are you aware that the 3 suspects in custody are all adolescents? Per chance did you read my comments about law enforcement and their 'take' on teens? Underage perps won't necessarily be identified to the press/media. Just fools - those adolescent boys. The problem that must get addressed has to be limitations on the size of magazines. These guys had, from one little glimpse I saw, some sort of semi- if not fully automatic firearm with and extended clip. (Not a gun expert, in the least. The weapon looked as if it was an Uzi?)
And, for all the nit-wits out their, at large - you don't want to give these guys press!

professor I am very aware that they are juveniles. If they were the sort of juveniles that you speculated about earlier, we would know who they are, we would know who their parents are and where they live, we would know from classmates and acquaintances that they were weird, we would know if they had any possible white nationalist connections or if anyone in their circle ever said anything in support of a member of a certain political party. But we don’t need to know those things because it looks like this was just a normal occurrence in the KC metro (240 homicides in 2023) except that it happened at a high profile crowded event.

professor Why would you suspect anything different otherwise? It's also the anniversary of the Parkland High School massacre!
More than likely another 'kook' whom lots of people knew; one with known mental health issues and guns. And, nobody said or did anything. Then again, in the recent son beheading his father in Bucks County, PA, no gun was used.
One of the suspects arrested was white male, with shaved head. WTF?!

johnnydoom No mugshots, no press waiting outside suspect’s house to ask relatives what kind of monsters they raised

johnnydoom the press isn't focused on the perps.

👇This....should always be the way. Just report it happened, then move along quietly, behind the scenes.

professor you don't want to give these guys press!

professor Underage perps won't necessarily be identified to the press/media.

When/if charged/tried as 'an adult', they will be. That might even vary by state, but it is done here. Even if only 13 yrs. old.

professor my state has already passed law to 10 round clips. It doesn’t matter I still have the original ones. Any felon can just go buy guns on the street when they lawfully can’t buy a firearm at all. Criminals can always seem to get what they want. They don’t care about rules or laws. Even if they couldn’t get guns it would be home made bombs or something. We seem to have more of an abundance of evil assholes in the world than ever before
