Range time today was good. I started with a few 5 iron shots, just to see how I'm hitting at that time. Dropped the 1st 'pineapple' on and worked on tempo and ball contact. Added the 2nd one, and kept working on contact. After about 10- 15 balls, I started to add speed. I was getting good ball flight, and sending balls about 145-150ish yards carry. I was happy with that result with range balls. For the last 1/3 of the range balls, I pulled both pineapples and worked on tempo. I was getting my 5 iron out to about 185ish yards carry, and rolling out to 190+. When I hit a few old Callaway balls that I had in the truck, I had one fly to almost 190, bounce a couple times and hit the 200 yard marker( from my spot on the range, that marker was 196 yards away).
When I was leaving the range, a buddy was walking up to the #6 tee box(that box was playing about 220) I played the last 4 holes with him starting at #6. I played my 5 iron off the deck, and hit a nice straight, fairly high shot. My ball(logicalone 3 piece) was 10-15 yards short of the green.
Maybe it's my imagination, but my club speed seems to be getting a little faster. My ball striking is just inconsistent, so ball flight and distance isn't always there. I'll keep working with these, and see just how fast I can get. Hopefully this year I'll have some extra money to be able to pick up an inexpensive launch monitor, more for swing speed and ball speed, just so I can really monitor my swing, and ball speeds.
