My day after Christmas find....
Got these locally for $50 for the pair. Seller said they have been in his garage storage for 20+ years. He thought the amp had one channel out, but the cassette player worked fine when put in storage.
Got them home. Cassette deck seems to play fine (don't have any cassettes to test, but everything on the unit seems to work. Took off the lid, and everything inside was super clean.
Amp was not working. Powered on ok, but no sound. Opened up the amp, dust everywhere. Spent a while blowing dust out. Then I attacked it with Deoxit. On closer inspection, and thanks for some insightful historical posts on SR-2A issues on the interwebs, found two spots where transistors tended to run hot and burned some glue on the circuit board - and I definitely saw that on mine. Spent some time with a tiny screwdriver and wire brushes getting that burned stuff out. Saw lots of corrosion on a couple of resistors and other connectors in that area - scrubbed that off.
Put it all back together again, and amazingly enough, that did the trick. Amp works fine now.
Not a powerful amp (30w). but it is hooked up to my 95db sensitive Tekton Mini Lore Monitors and it is more than powerful enough. Now I just need to find some cassettes.
