sdandrea1 Price merely comes down to how much work you're able to do yourself. I'll pack all my stuff, but I'm not willing or able to load or unload it. SWMBO and I can't be lifting couches, dressers, armoires, refrigerators, etc.
When we moved to Florida from Massachusetts 22 years ago I believe we used Allied. Luckily the company I retired from gave me a nice package that included $5000 that could be used for either education or moving expenses.
The driver's route was to Florida and he had family in Coral Cables. We paid to have everything packed and boxed up and had a yard sale etc. to get rid of stuff we didn't want to take with us. I think we paid ~ $3000 - $3500 and remember it went by weight.
We had our stuff taken to a storage facility nearby here in New Port Richey where we were staying with my in laws until we bought a house. This included a lot of heavy stuff like furniture.
We met the Allied truck at the storage facility and he had two guys that were relatively local to help him move the stuff into the storage facility.
The driver recommended these guys when we got our house. So we got the two guys numbers. We bought our house ~ 3 months later. We rented a U-Haul truck and met them at the storage place.
These guys did the bulk of the work moving all the stuff into our house and only charged us $500.
