MidwayJ I think it was a matter of the staff really liking Henson and feeling like they had to play him. I remember the talk/hype a out Henson and a lot less chatter about Brady....he flew under the radar for sho!

ode No doubt the case about Henson, but Brady eventually beat him out, played great, and then the NFL teams still wanted to look at other guys. 😄

MidwayJ crazy considering how it all played out. NFL teams missed the boat on Brady!

MartinD A different era of college football, for sure - a player in that position now would simply enter the transfer portal and move to a school that wanted him as a starting QB.

Brady actually had a chance to go be a starter somewhere else while at Michigan.

Steve Mariucci told Brady he could come to Berkeley and start immediately for California. Near where he’s from.

Brady declined and Carr eventually saw the light and made Brady the starter.

The platooning with Henson hurt Brady in the draft.

ode Henson was an incredible physical specimen who starred in two sports. They thought they had something really special in him.

Brady wasn’t highly recruited out of high school. He and his father sent of tapes of his play to colleges. Brady has the size (6’4” and 230) and showed the same come from behind clutch in high school he showed at Michigan and New England.

Nothing ever was given to him. He had to work harder to prove his ability. He credits what he went thru at Michigan for his work ethic where he had to prove himself every week in order to play.

He played with a chip on his shoulder because he was always overlooked. Obviously a great motivator for him.

Sneakylong He played with a chip on his shoulder because he was always overlooked.

It's easy to understand why. I just think coming out the winner of the platooning exercise should have helped him more in the draft than it did.

Par4QC Yeah, not special. 1 more year would have helped. Good luck with that. Thought a similar thing when the Alabama center went to the Portal for transfer, as if nobody noticed his ball hiking techniques.

Who really knows if JJ will find success in the NFL?
          The answer is - nobody

I'm from Michigan and have seen nothing to suggest he will be successful. His team ran the ball virtually every time vs. PSU rather than let him throw the ball. We'll see.

I'm from Illinois. He won 2 state titles as a soph and junior. Won the natl title as a senior at img academy.
Definitely has the "it" factor as far as playing on no. 1 ranked teams.
Harbaugh liked to play bully ball and who could blame him with that off line and running backs.
Won't happen but if bears got him in draft, I wouldn't be too pissed off. It might be interesting to see him battle it out with Fields.
Drafting QBs is such a crap shoot, as we all know.

Looks like my Cats got themselves a new head coach.

azgreg I had no idea your old coach boogied to Washington! Hope the new one can keep up the winning ways.

So far everything seems great. Only lost a couple of players to the portal and Fifita and McMillian seem very happy with the hire.

Heard in Harbaugh's deal with the Chargers he can bring in who he wants as far as assistant coaches. It'll be interesting to see if any of the other Michigan coaches go with him.
