Sneakylong makes me wonder what their ranking or should I say the committee's ranking would have been for FSU in next years format. An interesting dynamic in college basketball is where one is seeded vs their AP rank, etc. I wonder now with 12 getting in and the attention of getting the 4 "best teams" no longer being a thing.....will the ranking return to "deserve" 🤔.....as there will clearly be teams ranked outside the top 12 that get in....at least one with g5 getting a spot.....and with potential of conf championship upsets it could be more. In the new format the issue of "matchups" is less of an issue as the top 4 don't play each other in the first game.....but it does provide for some good drama with other matchups 5/12, 6/11, 7/10, 8/9 matchups. Seeding absolutely matters!

      ode You could also have 3-4 teams from the same conference make that final 12. Could end up with 2 teams from same conference in the championship game!

      They will be very careful with the rankings after the last game is played, before choosing the 12. It will still be very controversial, to be sure.

          Par4QC we shall see.....in basketball they don't put same conf vs one another in rd. 1 but there are 68 teams that get in so it's easy to do. With 12 it will be harder and I don't see it happening. That #5 is almost assuredly going to get the g5 team.....which could be blowout city or there will come a day when a big upset happens and then no one will want the 5 seed🙃

            FSU has a right to be mad, but no way they beat two teams in a row in the CFP with their backup. Georgia may not have a right to be mad, but when their receivers get healthy they could beat any two of them. Almost every year there has been one team that never had a chance. This year there were 5 teams that could win, and 6 that deserved a shot.

              Sneakylong College Football Playoff officials will introduce a 12-team playoff bracket next season, expanding from the current four-team format.

              Just curious how this fits in calendar wise. Do they expand the season a few weeks and have the final game late in January or shorten the regular season a week or two?

                  propman too bad both teams can't lose. Not a Saban fan and have Bama fatigue. Only hate Michigan because their fans are insufferable. There's a saying around here " Michigan didn't lose , they just ran out of time". And the fans seem to really believe that. They've never been good outside the Big 10 going back to Bo's. 2-9 record in bowl games

                      Rickochet I would hope that, in consideration of the academics (😆) and injury to the players that they would shorten the regular season by a week or two or maybe even add an extra bye for every team. But in consideration of $, they may just keep everything the same and use two weeks in Dec. for the first two rounds of the playoff. I haven't heard how it will work.

                        It's really a shame Jordan Travis got hurt. What would the committee have done if he was healthy? It appears FSU would have gotten in instead of Bama, but would the committee have had the guts to shut out the SEC?

                        Possible unpopular opinion: If Michigan doesn't like having to play Alabama, maybe they aren't a legit #1 seed. The Big 10 was weak and they played an easy nonconference schedule. Basically, Michigan played two good teams (Ohio State and Penn State), and neither of them is as good as Bama, Washington, or Texas.

                        propman I'm sure that's the case but living in Michigan and listening to sports talk radio, Michigan fans are insufferable. They haven't won a Natty in 26 years but the fans think they're Bama.

                            I have no problem with P5 teams playing FCS teams but not in the 2nd to last week of the season.

                                They do book some cream puffs, but Bama did book Texas. And Georgia had Oklahoma on this year's schedule before the NCAA cancelled it. The top SEC teams never shy away from booking perennial top-tier teams at the beginning of the schedule, but many of those other schools have stopped accepting due to fear that even a loss out of conference will kill their chances of making the CFP. SEC teams were trending in that direction, but will probably be less concerned about it due to the expansion.

                                I imagine the timing of these simply boils down to conference scheduling (fitting them in the only place they can). Alabama played 8 SEC opponents in nine week span. The only week off was Nov 18th. I also wonder if it’s as simple as Alabama scheduling a cupcake, or do they also have trouble getting quality teams to play them this late in the season? It always seems like big matchups occur in weeks one or two, giving the teams time to recover

                                    Don't think we can really fault the big schools for those opponents. iirc, it's usually the small guys that approach the big teams for a game. 2 fold....they knock them off, they are somebody, if only for a week. Plus a ton of money is brought back to those small places, esp. if they play at home.

                                    Do we want the NCAA to start setting up all schedules???? 😲

                                        Par4QC Supposedly Auburn payed New Mexico State 1.4 million to come into their home stadium and give them a public spanking in front of their own 😁. All the Alabama fans were so giddy for a week and then just missed theirs when Auburn let them score an impossible touchdown with no time left.
