So, you can't run downhill on both sides of the ball controlled by DL. That's why Sarkisian called the pitch to the short side. A play he saw as what they didn't expect to see coming. Buckeyes have speed at all positions. You gotta try something all 4 QB's in the CFP are just average QB talent as are majority of QB's in college football. Ewers can't even hit an out with no pressure. Ewers had multiple chances into the end zone with the pass interference calls. Put Arch Manning in? High echelon QB's are making $3m -$4m NIL money so expectation should be real. Even though they maybe young Ewers is 22 you gotta make the plays when the game is on the line. The right tackle on Texas did an ole block on Sawyer and that's also why they didn't run right on the pitch. There is more than we know on play calls and player ability. I say Allar and Ewers choked. Texas has blown the CFP 2x in 2 years. Some say Ewers doesn't elevate anyone. He got them a long ways but can't make the big one. He's gone. Most can say the same can't win the big one. James Franklin can step up and admit that also. Good exciting games both semi-final games.

Par4QC Gawd.....I hate Ohio State!! Always have, because of Woody.

One of my main reasons for loving them!! Woody was a GREAT MAN!!!

scotts33 I say Allar and Ewers choked.

I’ve watched Allar all year and I’d call it heroic overconfidence that led to the INT. JMO.

scotts33 short of fumbling or an Int, it was the worst possible case scenario. Play action would have been better, and then test fate on 3rd and 4th, hell even a QB sneak! you are spot on re Ewers he has some touch but his throw motion/delivery is wonky leading to some issues. Allar has more upside and I could see him possibly having a chance at the next level but he needs so much work. That throw against the grain/body for the int was a bad decision. Despite all that, I would take any of these guys over the trash that Wisco has had to endure in recent years🙃

ode hell even a QB sneak!

Arch Manning but Buckeyes are gonna be ready for that. The first down that Manning did make earlier in the game he ran wide. Multiple shots into the end zone with pass interference penalties and couldn't get it done. He's not NFL caliber neither is Allar. They are 6th round and down draft picks at best. This years QB class is a down year for the NFL but both can ride the bench to learn the craft neither has the arm strength of a ie Jordan Love who per-usual rode the bench and learned. They both should hit the transfer portal for another $3m - $5mil pay day. Compare them to Cam Ward night and day.

Allar is quoted as saying "I should have thrown it away".

Allar is a junior who will stay at Penn State for his senior year.

Arch made the first down but he got his bell rang! I’ll be curious how this young man works out for Texas. Will they try to develop him into this running type quarterback or will they try to keep him in the pocket.

          scotts33 Allar

Yep throw away or take off and run. I like what they did on first down with the run. They had enough time and TOs to run again. Too much time in the clock for a critical error/taking a chance like that.

I believe your entire assessment is spot on! Great review. Quite frankly, if Pitt were to develop a better offensive line, they've got a QB with legitimate talent. Next year, maybe. Transfer portal be damned.

ode He could even have taken the sack, and ended up in overtime. He did the one thing he couldn't do.

Agreed, college football is more or less defined by the strength and talent at OL and DL even serviceable average QB's like Allar, Ewers, Howard and Leonard if they don't turn the ball over can take college teams quite far. It's the OL and DL where it starts. Look at SMU this season rebuilt the whole DL and some OL with a dozen portal guys that they bought NIL and SMU makes the CFP.

Yes, I'm still chewing on the portal and the NIL. I can't say I'm opposed. There's no point in being stuck in the past. It's simply a big transition from the days of "loyalty" but that's the culture within which we live.

I think there is some point to be made about ND and *only getting 13 guys from the portal and look at there year. Maybe there is some room for programs like ND to be a regular factor by doing what they do. Coach has total control of the team vs. dealing with a bunch of transfers and NIL prima donna's🤔

Every head coach would prefer to build their own from within but in today's reality it ain't happening. I've said this before we should be applauding Army and Navy this year along with Air Force for their great results this year without one portal guy or using NIL.

Personally, it's about time for players to get theirs as universities have been parlaying their skills for large amounts of money. It's just that after the Supreme Court riled in their ability to use NIL the NCAA should have had a structure in place to deal with the transfer portal and the revolving door it has become. Players now play sign up for a team and there for 6 months and garner large amounts of NIL $$$$.

Wisconsin put their foot down and are challenging the portal, NIL, binding contract, paid NIL money and won't let Xavier Lucas transfer to Miami. Wisconsin has said in their actions this has gone far enough. I think they will allow him to enter the portal eventually but so far they are standing up against the status quo. It has not hurt Wisconsin's status to sign other portal players.

I see it different. Didn’t their O line have something like 5 fifth year seniors? Or you too struggle with accepting the new ncaa.

Yes! Move on fellas. It’s 2025.

professor no, I'm saying ND is the exception to the new rule. Part of that is due to academic standards but it also appears that is by design by the coach/staff. It will be interesting to see how this plays out with ND but it is clear it can be done! IMO that is interesting, considering NIL and portal.

I'm fine with NIL and portal. It allows players to make a living and go elsewhere to get a chance to showcase their talents. There will be a wild West era of this and some ills but it was inevitable!
