I had my physical today. Let me first pose this question to you guys “How does being cold affect Blood pressure and Pulse?”
So I get on the waiting room and I’m freezing. Forgot a sweatshirt, and I’m shivering. I ask the nurse amd she says the heat is on… she says yea, I asked what, on 30?
I’m so cold I can’t feel my fingertips. Then I have to put on a Johnny…. They do my BP amd pulse. BP is 189/97 and my pulse is around 100. The girl says nothing. I’m like WTF? Doctor comes in and says we’ll do your BP again with the other machine. 175/99🙄. She tries the other arm, still the same. She asks if I’m nervous 🙄. I said no, I’m just sitting here.
I asked her why it was so cold. She said “yeah it is a little chilly”. She presses on my stomach, her hands are like fucking ice. I said “hey, warm them paws up will ya!” She laughs. I said “you better not plan on going any lower until you warm them up!”.
So she goes over all the BP stuff, tells me to give up alcohol, less salt, exercise. Tells be to buy a cuff and check it at home. Anyway I get home and I think to myself, the cold has an effect on the body. So I Google it… cold makes your heart work hard to get you warm so you get high BP numbers and pulse rate.
WTF???!!! How could she not figure this out, especially with me complaining about being cold. Even the 2 nurses or aides or whatever they are… nobody knew this??? But I did??? She could have said something too because last year my pulse was 62 and BP 110/80. And she says, “ let’s see ou had an ekg in 2021 and it was fine.” I’m thinking to myself… is stupidly high and you don’t want to do an ekg??
I took my BP at home when I was warmer and it was 108/75 and my pulse 70.
And that’s why I come here for medical advice
