Well, it's over.
My clubs were at a C5 swing weight. They fit me at D6. The most important problem I had with my current irons was that the launch angle varied a lot, which meant distances varied a lot and also descent angle varied a lot.
With any of the newer iron heads at a heavier swing weight, there was a lot more consistency.
Ultimately they thought one of the SK Fiber shafts was best for me, but it was too expensive.
I tried iron heads from Srixon, PXG, Titleist, TaylorMade, and Callaway. The best for me were the Srixon and the Callaway Paradym. I thought the Srixon was a better looking iron, and the prices were about the same.
Lie angle one degree down and length + 0.5 inches produced the best results.
I was impressed enough with the Srixons to buy them. I didn't let them upsell to the SK Fiber shaft, even though it felt great, and I turned down the 'puring' process (it was $630 to do this!). You were all right that they push the puring endlessly. They start before you even get to the bay.
Bottom line is that for next season I will be gaming the Srixon zx-5s! I am actually pretty excited about joining this century with my irons.
If the dispersion and launch angle can me more consistent, the way it was on the monitor, I should be able to at least hit a few more greens in regulation. At least I hope so.
Oh, and these heads are not really jacked; the 6-iron loft is only 2 degrees stronger than the TF Tours I have been playing.
