Doc, all these irons are good. Go with what looks and feels right to you. Don't expect your scores to improve, though. Given your skill level, you can probably break 80 with old and/or new.

Well, as the anti-Steve, I am taking steps. Went out to Club Champion and Golf Galaxy to poke around a bit last Saturday.

Tomorrow I have an appointment for an iron fitting at Club Champion. I guess it's an hour and a half on the Trackman. And then after that they probably try to sell you $150 shafts, spining and pure-flowing or whatever, and for a mere 4 grand you get your new irons. Something like that.

If nothing else, at least I'll get to see my specs, maybe what kind of iron works best, what types of shafts work best, etc. Even I don't buy from them they will have to give me the info, right?

I added Srixon to my list of possible new irons when I saw how their sole design is pretty similar to the TF Tours I am used to. We'll see. I'm trying to go into this with an open mind but a closed wallet.

Let me know if you have any words of advice for me. I have never been fitted on Trackman before.

rsvman2 I’d have a tough time paying CCs price for clubs. But their fitting would be nice to have. I bet they like to avoid recommending a stock shaft, to keep you from being able to easily order the clubs yourself.

That's exactly what they do. All 3 of my VA buds got sucked into CC and all were fitted with shafts that we can't buy. Just get all the shaft (and head) specs you can for your money spent there. Weight, profile, bend point, etc.

Oh, and all 3 of my buds have not improved 1 stroke.

Yeah, it’s not a guarantee of lower scores. You might get better ball striking, tighter dispersion and more distance but if you don’t have the game, you don’t have the game.

Make sure you bring your own irons so you can compare them on Trackman. Make sure those results are on your printout when you leave along with their recommendations.

They have shafts that they push because of quotas and sales contests. I interviewed with them so I was able to ask shit. So keep that in mind. You don’t have to buy, they might ask for a budget, I dunno. My thoughts are so the fitting, take the results and run.

Don’t get caught up in the sales pitch that you’re hitting these clubs further than your old clubs. It’ll be a difference in loft from your old set (will have higher lofts).

jmo, but 'fitting' is nothing more than bullshit, esp. in a brick/mortar storefront's back room!!! In an hour/hour and 1/2 you will be told what is best for you. THAT DAY!! You can get the same from McD's.....'special of the day', and those employees are much of the same types as your fitter will be.

My advice....find the weights of the heads, shafts, and grips you are now using, (along with TRUE stiffness), as it appears after many years of use they fit your swing/ability. Find the swingweight of those clubs. Check lofts/lies.
Build the damn things yourself. Doesn't have to be an OEM head.

Every day I read about 'get fitted'. Every day I read the 'for sale' ads from those that got fitted. Do not get caught up in bullshit. It stinks.

My job there is no commission, although I wish there was because some people just have waaay too much money to spend on the shit game they have.

One big event the trailer guy offered us a custom wedge for whoever sold the most Velocore shafts …$350 upcharge. One guy wouldn’t shut up pushing people into them. I’d have people try it along with a couple similar shafts… some no upcharge at all. Show them the numbers and let them decide.

But you DO get your shitheads too that come in and want a velocore… that’s it, nothing else. Had a guy like that once where his friends all had them. This was an older guy too… he hit everyrhing the same. He said to me half way through. “ what’s the difference between the velocore and xxxxxx shaft. I said $350. He said, “ money doesn’t matter to me”. Asshat🙄. Sooooo… for the rest of the fitting I would make noises like “hmmm, woah”. I’d take his bad shots out with the Velocore, and take out the good shots with the other shafts. Then I said to him, yup, I’m seeing some improvement with the velocore, you must be getting used to it, you’re killing it now. He bought driver and 2 fairway woods with the Velocore. Here you go asshole😂

Par4QC I remember it had to be the Velocore BLACK. All he was concerned about was spin and distance… which I’d lie to him about when I was looking at the iPad. I knew the guys he played with… they were beasts…175 -180 ball speed and this guy with a fly swatter… but HAD to have the same shaft.

I played in a scramble with a younger guy today. Mid 60s, fit, athletic guy. Hits his tee shots with a high fade about 260- 270 with an old piece of shit Cleveland Monster XLS, stock A flex shaft. He's going for a fitting. Can't wait to see what he's told/sold.
