Yesterday I hit a 250 yard drive onto the green on a short par 4. The pond in front of the green was 235 to clear. Landed soft and rolled out 4 feet. 3 putt par.

Wow! That's a helluva drive, over water no less.
It would take guts to go for the green in that situation. Too bad about the 3-putt though.

I had a killer back nine today. 1 over on the back heading into 18. We won't talk about 18.

Hole 12 at Skylinks in Long Beach. I blew my drive 30 yards right of the fairway but was lucky to get it in the parallel holes fairway. I have a 156 yards to the flag with a whole line of tall pine trees to clear. I hit a towering 8 iron draw just like I drew up in my head. Stuck it to 5 feet and proceeded to make the birdie putt. Top 5 recovery shots ever for me.

Number 12 at Riverby Hills....a downhill par 4 layup hole with water in play. I had just bogeyed the previous hole,
so I layed up short of the water, but had a downhill / sidehill lie to a green that sits on the edge of a hill. Landing
short is not an option, b/c if you hit short into the steep bank you'll roll back down into the water. So I hit a 9 iron,
and must have nuked it, b/c it flew about 5 yards over the green and into some rough. If I had the skill, I would've
tried the Lee Trevino tip that I posted the other day, but I realized that shot is for the pros.....so I used my 58* wedge and happened to hit my landing spot just right, and it rolled on down the slope of the green to within 2 feet of the cup for a par.....sigh of relief....!!

Three consecutive bad shots on a relatively easy par-5 left me about 120 yards out in the left rough under some overhanging branches. I made a compact swing to avoid the branches and, got a bit of a lucky bounce and ended up 3' from the hole . . . One putt later I had my par.

A slightly accidental shot for me today - playing the 11th hole (320 yards, par 4), and decided to take a 3-wood off the tee to stay short of the fairway bunker in the middle of the fairway about 40 yards short of the green. (The course is playing firm and fast after a recent dry spell, and the wind was helping.) I hit a nice solid shot down the right-centre of the fairway with a little draw, but didn't follow the ball after it landed. As I walked up the fairway, I could see a ball just short of the green - at least 50 yards past where I would expect my ball to be, but it was my ball (300 yards away from the tee, going by my GPS). I went with putter for the second shot - the fringe grass is pretty short at the moment - and played for a little bit of left-to-right break from around 50 feet. The ball was rolling at a nice pace, but looked like it was going to miss just to the left until it took a little right turn as it reached the hole, catching the edge and dropping for an eagle 2.

It ended up being a really good back nine - I also birdied the 15th and 18th, and made pars on the other six holes to be back in 30 shots (4 under).

Great shot !!! Great nine !!!

After a fairly decent round driving the ball, I sliced a nasty one off the 18th tee through the trees onto the adjacent 9th fairway. Hit a low 3 wood back through the trees and it got through pretty clean and looked to be right of the green somewhere down there thereabouts. Went down and started wandering around looking for it getting more and more disappointed when my wife chipped on and then called over, "there's two balls on the green, you noticed that right?"

Scramble today. First round in 4 years with a full set of clubs. This year I played a few times with 5 clubs, only iron a 7 iron. Borrowed my friends kids ironsā€¦. Didnā€™t go that great BUT..

12th hope at Lake Sunapee CC is a brutal par 3. Itā€™s 230 yards uphill into the wind to an elevated green with a false front amd a 2 level green. I donā€™t carry a fw and I know Iā€™m not going to get a 3 hybrid there. So everyone else canā€™t reach the green with their driver anyway. Closest was 15 yards away from the green. I hit my abbreviated driver swing ā€¦ā€ stingerā€ to 13 feet on the lower lever where the pin is. Brutal breaking putt where I laughed to myself because my back was almost to the hole and I made the putt for 2.

Ended up winning the only skin of the day for thatā€¦$400 cash

There better be a school next to that green. Your hole description sounds like when my grandpa had to walk to school.šŸ˜

          Nice shot by the way!

Hole 17 today at Ocotillo Golf Club. I pulled my drive left and it managed to creep out of the fairway bunker, leaving me with a very awkward narly rough lie. Had 112 yards to the front pin location with a big ass bunker just to the right of the front of the green. I max out my 54Ā° wedge, looks like it will be short but ends up a little under 5 feet from the cup. I really enjoy the feeling of a great recovery shot. I proceeded to miss the short birdie putt. I did however make up for it by dropping a 30ft bomb on 18 for birdie! The last 2 holes were very fun today.

Had 1 birdie yesterday on #5. Hit a perfect drive up the hill, was in between PW & GW to a front pin and I clubbed up, but didn't commit. Thinned the PW to the very back of the green. I did this a few weeks ago and it leaves you a good 60 ft putt downhill breaking a good 15 feet right to left. I 3-putted last time, but it just took 1 putt yesterday lol. No skin though.

The final hole is a tough 380-yard par 4 with water all along the left, and the green is tucked behind the water. I'm not a long hitter so instead of going for the green on my second shot I'll usually play a shot that'll end up to the right of the green and hope for an up-and-down. Today I smoked hybrid that had a tight little draw (unintentional) that curved around the water and ended up on the right side of the green. Two putts later, I had a par on a hole where I usually take a bogey. It was a satisfying finish after a rather disappointing round.
