Come to think of it the coverage was a lot like the PGA only showing certain players....every once in a while they'd show that big gal from England, Hewison🤔

Bravopilot Can't tell if they used the coverage to help find Lydia Ko's ball on that Par 3

Ball was not found. You could hide a body in those bushes 😮
She played provisional from right hand bunker and chopped it up from there for a 7 I think.
I can relate, sadly. :/

I was just checking the whole leaderboard on The Golf Channel website. There are only about 40 American girls
who even qualified for our Open!! And of those 40, only two.....Alison Corpuz and Bailey Tardy.....are in the top 20...!!!
WTH is wrong with the American girls???? I realize it's only the second round, but .......?????

Spuzz Right, had they looked at the ball flight, they would spend the time looking behind the bushes. Now if I played and paid $500+ green fee, that ball better had jumped out onto the green.

The on course interview with Hannah Green was pretty good.

Bravopilot had they looked at the ball flight, they would spend the time looking behind the bushes

        It was OB behind there.
There was a posse that started looking before Ko left the tee box and nothing.
After she showed up, she had 3 mins to find it, but really only pretended to look, as the ruling would have left her in a worse spot than the provisional bunker did.

At 500 bucks a round, they need to put hockey rinks boards around that hole LOL

Just heard that the winner gets $2 million this week. The entire purse next week is only $1.75 million. 😏

Spuzz the purpose for finding it was to hit a 2nd shot from the tee after taking an unplayable from where it was found as there would have been no where to drop and her original provisional would have been null and void. She would have then had to retee as that is an option with an unplayable. Would have likely been better off vs. where whe was on the provisional. I would have tried like hell to find that ball.

ode Would have likely been better off vs. where she was on the provisional

            That is speculation of course.
            😉

              Spuzz

,🙃Indeed......would have been painful to watch as the two prior swings were TRBL.

I wonder if she knew the extent of the rule🤔.....didn't appear to be trying very hard to find ball.

ode Agreed, the entire thing and group seemed to not care at the least.

ode If you recall the size of the bushes, you'd realize there may not have been any room for relief anyway, esp. if it was to be on the backside of them. In a case such as that, you never want to find the ball; take the stroke you will have to take either way, and just re-tee, as she did. Smart move, imo. Just an overcompensated shot cost her more than she should have had.

Been there, done that. Tooo many times!😫

Par4QC the retee was for OB or lost ball. The benefit of finding was to retee for unplayable as her OB/not found provisional was in a bad spot! IMO she would have ended up no worse then 7 with decent odds on a 6 having to retee for unplayable, but🤔

ode IMO she would have ended up no worse then 7

She shit her pants with her bunker shot, just as Paige was saying how great her short game was, man or woman.
                    lmao

ode Made me go to the rule book, damn you. 😅
Now I understand; the found ball would essentially wipe out the provisional, giving her yet a 3rd shot to hit the green.
Might even have got a Par, if found!!

The Marquee TV group is Sorenstam, Wie West, and Chun (current player), really USA network, watching bogey golf.

Spuzz When I was stationed out that way, it was only $185 then but still outpriced us AF types. We would go play Ft Ord (closed) gold courses, very nice and same views. When they closed Ft Ord they gave the golf course away or sold it, I see it in the rotation for US Open qualifying and the same for PGA Tour local qual. $30 vs $185 wasn't too hard.
Lived up to the joke, "The coldest I've been was a day in the Bay area in the summer".

                          fatshot

I do know that after Se Ri Pak came on the scene in the late 90’s that South Korea really invested in women’s golf big time.
I worked with a woman from South Korea and Se Ri Pac was huge. She even started playing golf in her 40’s because of Pak.

Pak’s success (25 wins / 5 majors) has paid off for women’s golf in South Korea. That evidence is clear.
So, my guess is we just haven’t invested in women’s golf certainly as much as other countries, i.e. South Korea.

Not sure if you are married to an American woman or not, but just an FYI......they don't really want to be told what to do or when to do it.
Might explain the lack of results for American female golfers.

                            😜

Par4QC No today, might be sparing you, the mid-western crowd, they have slowed down showing them since they are not doing well.

Bravopilot They did just show them, all 3. Chun is doing great. Annika looks great.
                                That is all.

Bravopilot Yeah, most of them got a bit too wrapped up with IG and all that media shit. And boys. And babies. "Side hustles". 😉

Par4QC yeah, let's just say I learned something too🙃. I would have played a wrong ball in the scenario where the ball was found but unplayable and been DQ,d🤔 or 🤔🤔

This is the first time Shotlink has been used at a LPGA tournament.

Leader Bailey Tardy hit the longest drive yesterday (323) on the 9th hole.

"American bomber Bailey Tardy unlikely leader at US Women's Open."

"Tardy holed a 20-foot birdie putt on her fourth extra hole to secure a spot at Pebble Beach Golf Links in Pebble Beach, California, for her fourth U.S. Women's Open start. Now, the 26-year-old, ranked No. 455 in the world, finds herself the unlikely leader at the midway point of this historic championship."

Chamblee is complaining that the par 5s are too long and isn't exciting enough. Does he know this is a US Open?

backinit he's not wrong....there needs to be more risk reward IMO...i.e. if very few can reach there is no risk to take. I'm all for 3 shotters but 1 maybe 2 per 18. Short knockers aside, if very few can reach them it's a bit mundane. Hopefully they .ix it up some over the weekend!

ode I think more would reach if they could keep it in the fairway. I'm all good with a US Open with score close to par. That tournament is USGA, not the LPGA. Still seeing some great golf.

backinit Still seeing some great golf.

We must be watching different tournaments because I'm not seeing this. I'm watching typical weekend golf from Any Course USA.

The gals got no clue as to how to play this type course. Some appear to be playing 'scared', as I suppose they should be.

Maybe I'm expecting too much from them and they play courses that are much too easy most of the time. Just not exciting to watch, imo.
The weather is not making it easy at all. So there is that.

Par4QC Yes they are struggling. I doubt the winner will make -10, the 2 groups I watched were not eating it up, but I did see Lydia Ko take a very rough hole and still battle to make the weekend...Lexi played terrible....korda made it, but really had a tough time finding the fairway until midway through the 1st round. No one is going to score well hitting it 225 yards into that rough. Should it be lightened up for them?

backinit Should it be lightened up for them?

Just a wrong venue for their abilities. Not shorting them, just looking at reality. They simply do not have the strength to play from that type of rough or length. jmo

The men had 54 players at Par or under, with -18 winning. Perspective.

Hopefully this course was just a 'whim' for them, 1 season only. Hope like hell never to see Bethpage Black in their rotation.

Par4QC Right, avg LPGA course plays 6400, the same as this US Women's OPEN. Some of the rollouts show they are not playing smart, but I'm sure there is some stress.

Par4QC It's funny you mentioned Beth Page. That's one that ran through my mind as one they probably would never play. I agree 100 percent.

Lopez starting to light them up.

Bravopilot Purse is a ton of money for them; 2M to winner, iirc.
I think we'll see some different play from a lot of them this weekend, with those figures in mind. Can't be playing scared when the money is that high, gotta go for it after making the cut. Come Hell or the Pacific! 😁
Could see a 'worst to 1st' develop.

Sneakylong Leader Bailey Tardy hit the longest drive yesterday (323) on the 9th hole.

To put things in perspective, Lydya Ko hit it 282 yards on the same hole and she's ranked 107th in driving distance on LPGA.

Par4QC The weather is not making it easy at all. So there is that.

That's what's making it tough. The temperature is only expected to reach 63 degrees and wind is 27mph.
