DonM I’m led to believe that tricking up the course like that makes it rough for the members to play for months. If so, imagine the impact on courses which host a tournament every year.

Heard the same thing that @Eguller said about the members liking it tough. But what courses could do is grow the rough before the tournament and cut it back to normal after.

Long rough is the great equalizer. Tough for anyone. Puts a premium on hitting fairways. And again, what this tournament is showing is that courses can be made tough and not have to be 8000 yards long.

This is an old Donald Ross design that was redone a few years ago (2019?). They're playing it ~ 7400 yards. My point is you can take these great old designed courses and make them more difficult without lengthening them or changing the golf balls.

I don't think people want to see difficult courses every week where most players struggle to break par. But the idea that these great old courses are becoming obsolete for tournaments just isn't the case. Or doesn't have to be the case.

Bravopilot yeah, but I think the point is that the course could play really tough even if it isn't overly long.

Tony Weak Field having a time.

Got some decent scoring going on today, might see a little run to the front, should be a fun one.

The problem with growing in the rough is that it can slow down play when it's difficult to find your ball a foot off the fairway. I played in a tournament at a course that used to host an LPGA event and they keep their rough fairly long. It was frustrating to be constantly looking for balls that should have been easy to find. You had to be right on top of a ball in the rough to see it. Of course, the pros don't have that problem usually.

I. got the right guy and the wrong score, nice job Toraider, ya darn near nailed it!

johnnydoom having his name on the PGA Championship has to burn the PGA sooooo bad. The whole “washed up players” nonsense has to be thrown out the window now with another good showing from the LIV crew at the top of the board and the win. The majors are going to have to find a way to include these guys, it’s a joke if they don’t.

BTW, how awesome is it for Block to win an invite to the next PGA Championship? The guy really made the most of his opportunity out there. He really looks like he could stick on tour, I’m sure he won’t try to at this point in his career, but maybe he should lol.

somebody from outside holding your company's major title is straight out of Pro Wrestling storylines circa 2000-2005

Wonder if we'll get some Forbidden Door action next?

DC300 BTW, how awesome is it for Block to win an invite to the next PGA Championship? The guy really made the most of his opportunity out there. He really looks like he could stick on tour,

More than that - he received an invitation to play next week on Tour at Colonial. 👍
And.....technically, he is only 4 years away from the PGA Champions Tour possibilities.
Good for him. He made the 'show' interesting.

Eguller Thanks for organizing as always Dan! And thanks to all the well wishers! Like they say a blind squirrel finds a nut every once in a while! 😉
