Give in to the Soft Side?

One of my favorite things to do during downtime at my fittings is to put together something soft and lofty because I love the powerful feel. Like today, one of my favorite things is to take the Ladies Stealth HD Head at 12 degrees and a 55 gram LA Golf DJ shaft in regular flex. Feels sooo good and it goes forever. But the feel… of power.

I’m thinking of no more stiff shafts for me in my driver. How about you guys? I have no problem with ego… my wife took care of that. I’m a mere shell of my former self. I’m going higher loft, regular or senior flex shafts…

That's me.
Funny though.... my Club Pro walked up to me on the range and handed me an iron and said 'hit this' and
don't look at the head or shaft. I striped 5 nice iron shots with it and he said 'now you can look'......
it was a PING Blueprint with an X100 shaft. 🤪 Similar to what I played 15 years ago. Those would be TOO much
after about 5 holes. But, they did go and felt great. A moment reliving the good ole days.

Typhoon. I just put an L flex shaft in my driver, so I'm with you. And "power" is the right feeling. Just feels good. Don't really like it in irons though

Yeah, that is the problem with most people. Works great for a few swings but people don’t realize how it tires you out.

I can't control much of anything once I get below a soft stiff. I have a couple of very firm stiff shafts I can longer hit. It's tough to gauge where I am. It's more of a "if it isn't broke don't fix it" mentality.

I played my Adams 9088UL this weekend. It has a 46gm s shaft. When my tempo and timing are on it's a rocket launcher.

I used to play stiff shafts in the driver and fairway woods because I tended to hook regular flex in those. I think it may have just been that I developed a draw swing using stiff shafts in the beginning since the sales guy convinced my green self I should use stiff. Moved to regular in all clubs about two years ago and all is well. Haven’t tried a senior flex in anything yet.

Your club head speed, transition time, release you can "fit' softer flex.....most don't understand shaft EI profiles in the first place including major brand so called "fitters" Saying one size "fits" all is ludicrous. It "feels" good c'mon man. Sheesh play a 38 compression Callaway SuperSoft it "feels" good. 😄

You suggested it to me. I like it. A feel a little more kick and see less of the right side.

At this point in my arsenal, my sweetest feeling driver is my Callaway Rogue 12* with a Graman Limey UL440 in R flex.

I play my Ping 425 SFT 10.5 adjusted to 12 degrees with a Graphite Design MAD shaft in Regular flex and it has 4.7 degrees of torque. No idea what the cpm on the shaft is. Doesn't feel too soft though.

I have a Graphite Design G50 R flex shaft in my Ping G400 SFT and the GD MAD has the closest specs to the G50. The G50 has less torque. Always played Regular flex. Swing speed was never higher than low 90's and probably is high 80's now.

Didn't Freddy have a Callaway FT square 3w with an L flex🤔.....I could see it with that kind of smooth syrupy tempo, but anything quicker than that and it is bound to rear it's ugly head, IMO.

scotts33 I've had the Whippy Tempomaster driver and 7 iron for years. When I bought it, I remember the inventor saying that he made an entire set for Vijay Singh, and Singh would play practice rounds with it. Not sure if that was true or not, but that's what the claim was.

Hopefully over the next couple weeks I’ll have time to compare what I normally hit to using the same head on softer flex shafts AND a comparison using the Ladies Stealth head because it’s lighter.

I'll say this - one of my favourite feeling shafts in recent memory was a Grafalloy Blue in regular flex. Thinking I might try it again.

It was in a 10.5* pinemeadow clone of the Titleist 975. Unfortunately I could make that club spin enough to send the ball almost vertical. I have a feeling it would pair well with my current 7.5*
