The only things somewhat unique to my area are all the wind tower generators that are in the area. Most of them are
on what's called Buffalo Ridge which is the fault line between the Mississippi River and the Missouri River. Water that falls to the west of the ridge runs to the Missouri River and water to the east goes to the Mississippi River. The ridge is also the second highest elevation in Minnesota, which isn't saying much as Minnesota isn't all that far above sea level, the ridge is 1995 feet above sea level. I live in Slayton, MN which is about 10 miles from the ridge and elevation here is just 1601 feet.
Also somewhat unique is the End-O-Line Railroad Park and Museum at Currie, MN (10 miles the other side of my town).
The park has various railroad items including a fairly rare one, a manual rail turn table. It's near to where it sat when still in use. Currie was the end of the line for that rail road in days past and they would pull the train engine onto the turn table and manually push the turn table to turn the engine around to head back the direction it came from. It's believed that it is one of only a couple of manual turn tables left in the USA.
There is also a historic site where "The Great Sioux Uprising" took place. The Sioux Indians living in the area at the time showed their displeasure with the white men living there, and the government who took advantage of them by killing
most of the white settlers. Some of the settlers gathered at one of the farms alongside a lake and were all killed. It was said that the lake became red with the blood of the settlers. It was later named Bloody Lake and still goes by that name today. A few miles away is another spot where settlers gathered together and were killed. It was a slough that came to be known as Slaughter Slough. 38 Of the Native Americans were later hanged publicly at Mankato, MN. at the order of President Abraham Lincoln. It was the largest mass execution in U.S. history, An area author, Frederick Manfred, wrote a book that is based on the uprising. It is titled, "The scarlet plume" and is considered to be sort of a classic.
