Rickochet I grew up in a town with a nuclear plant. Then just after high school they built one in the next town and another one 30 miles away. We all loved nuclear power because of the good jobs and the property taxes. I lived there my whole life.
Then I got thyroid cancer. 🙁
It is thought to mostly be caused by radiation. But I’ve had a fair number of neck X-rays so who knows. My endocrinologist was leaving her med school residency to begin practicing in our area, and one of her mentors told her, “You’ll see a lot of thyroid cancer patients in that county.” When she asked why, he said nuclear plants. She said she does have more than usual. Apparently there is some correlation. For sure some of the workers get more exposure, even though they are closely monitored.
