DonM So, holy grail?

Cleveland knows wedges. That is all. The CBX is the best sole design I've ever hit. How many clubs have I kept for years? 😉

I have and have played both. CBX wins by a mile on full shots (distance, forgiveness, and feel). Chipping and pitches they're relatively close, but CBX still wins.

OG CBX and the MDs are closer in a run off, but the new Zip Core CBX kicks the MDs ass big time in my book.

Just my two cents.

Not trying to throw you for a total loop but how about the Maltby Max milled? I would think that head would be like the CBX (sole wise) but no CB cavity.

One very big drawback with these max milled is the weight. Pretty heavy

I haven't played the CBX wedges...I'm still playing the first generation Smart Sole Wedges from Cleveland and haven't found anything to get them out of the bag. Might have to give the CBX's a go based upon your stellar recommendation - you've had them in the bag for years!!!

No, same answer as the Juggernaut.
But, the GW is wider so it would be good in our sand. But probably not as good as the CBX on the dormant Bermuda here. I mean, it would be okay, but not holy grail.

DonM The magic for me is the sole, not the cavity.

Amen. Cavity backs add forgiveness on full swing shots. Wedges are for little shots. Most of us will find the center of the clubface on these shots. The sole is the critical element.

DonM I bought a mint Cally Mack Daddy CB 58/14 at 2nd Swing and a mint Cleveland CBX Zipcore 58/10 at PGATSS. The loser will be returned. Results below.

      A few things to add:

      1. Thanks for this, I was always curious about trying the Cally Wedge, now I don't have to.
      2. Spuzz would say this is his “Spuzzervation" > the shaft weight difference may have been a factor in performance of your tests.
      3. Any model after the Cleveland CBX2 has sole grinds designed for different types of situations. The original CBX had one sole grind for all lofts.

I play the CBX2s with my favourite wedge shafts, the Apollo Hump. The V-Sole feature seem to work for me...

Is a winner......gonna be in the lookout for a 56! The only hesitation is how it does with flops ... I only do it if it's necessary, but occasionally it is!
