I decided to put together a bag that was current when I first got really interested in golf as a young man. Early 1980s. This is to play once in a while, not to collect.

I still have my Ping Pal putter from back then.
I found these on eBay for $37.50. The seller was Clubfinders Golf, which is only a few miles from me. So I drove over this morning and bought em. 1,3,4, & 5 woods. Don’t need all of them but it was a set.

I just ordered a matching 7 wood from eBay for $14, in similar decent condition. I used to carry one back then and loved it.
Now to find some Eye2 plus irons.
And some grips that will look right. Do they still make the GP Victory grips?

My 7 wood was by Browning back then.

accufitgolf I was looking at those! I don't think I've ever seen one in person.

Interestingly, these woods sit closed. Which for wooden woods is fine by me! If they sat open I'd be screwed. I wonder if this was standard for the Eye2 model or maybe this was a custom order. They all have the same guy's name on the shaft bands.
They also have a decal that says heel-toe weighting. So I suppose the sweet spot is 2 mm wide instead of 1mm.
      😅

DonM I have several Ginny’s if you’re interested. Send me a PM.

DonM My first set, which came from my FIL, had those Ping woods 1, 3, 5 and a Ginty along with Eye2 BeCu irons and a Tommy Armour putter. I loved the 3w and the Ginty. I think I started playing in 1996 so they were not yet classics lol

gllama I already ordered the 7 wood. Let me see what that’s like.

KCee 1996 is pretty close to when I switched to metal woods and GI irons. Prior I was playing forged blades and laminated woods.

DonM I had some blades that were my grandfather's for maybe a month, but then my FIL gave me the Ping set as he had a new set of Callaways. Later he wanted the Eye2 iron set back so I bought a set of Top-Flite Tours. The Ping woods stayed for a while though. The first 5 years or so I mainly played an after work league and a few charity scrambles. I didn't know what a club ho was and if I did I wouldn't have thought I would soon become one.

My first real set was a Wood Brothers Kool Kat Driver and Kool Kat irons. I don't remember what the wedges, fairway or putter were. Still have the driver with the headcover.

Maugust789 Too bad. Kinda looking for a set. I had the Wood Bros. Forged Championship Balanced cavity back irons and have regretted selling them. Really nice Endo forged irons.

DonM I got all that same crap and the Eye2 irons in a box. I just sold a bunch and a guy unloads this box of Ping crap me a few months back.

                  • DonM replied to this.

Nice Don. Go back and remember your fond memories.

And I didn't understand that at the time. I think I went to Mizuno Grads from there and I've been hooked on forged irons ever since. I still regret selling my 1999 Hogan Apex Blades.
