Alot of you guys like hitting the wide sole blobby “fat bottomed girls” irons. What is your limit where you just find one sooo Game Improvement that you can’t hit it?

I thought of this the other nite at indoor golf using my pro’s Mavrik irons. Not the Mavrik Pro, the standard issue. Big offset, big head and everyone I hit felt/sounded like crap and went nowhere. I used them on the front 9 and was -1. On the back 9 I grabbed his old Titleist T-MB irons and hit it 1000 times more solid AND longer than the Mavriks.

    Typhoon Big offset, big head

Hate 'em, won't use 'em, won't buy 'em!

Browning 440's would be good enough for me.
Why you need so many grooves? How long do these OEM people think a ball is on the clubface? Even wedges?

I can play anything short of a wood looking hybrid iron set.

Wishon 560mc were pretty huge and could be the largest iron heads I have actually played. I did like them a lot.
Maltby M05/ MTF were also pretty big...long heal toe iirc.

played Ping i20 and i5 ( still have the i5 in the Phoenix bag) not big but medium size with a bit of offset.

718 ap1 probably the widest soles I have played but not FBG territory.

using PXG 0311P now and they seem about right for my needs although eyeing the new Ping i230

No blobbies here. Most blobby irons I owned were X16 pro series.

Same here plus TMP790 in the rotation. I simply cannot play oversized, wide bottom, offset, high bounce irons. Don’t have the speed anymore for MB blades either. 🥴

Too big would be the g700, which is massive.

Players shovels for me all day long. Blades and smallish players irons are fun to look at though.

Not sure I have one. Three iron sets: 1971 Wilson blades, 2006 Ping Raptures, and Alpha C1 Pro irons of unknown date, but probably around the same as the Pings. I hit them all equally good and bad except that left-right dispersion decreases with the game improvement technology (or workability decreases if you are a better player). As far as turf interaction goes I’m not sure it matters to me. The blades feel better on good hits and worse on bad. They also don’t feel as wonderful as I remember from the days of wound balls.

Forgot that I also have Tech Power Forged, which are basically a low budget version of the Alpha players cavity. Actually shot my lowest scores with them.
