The Ring (2002). First watch of this version for me. I had watched the Japanese original (Ringu 1998) a year or two after it came out. Both are excellent if you like supernatural style horror. It is rare that a Hollywood remake of a foreign film rises to the same level of the original, but in this case I think they succeeded, and it may even be better as far as production values. Very creepy and effective. Doesn't completely make sense when viewed in retrospect, but viewed in the chronology as presented in the movie makes for some significant suspense and dread.

I might go see that new movie "Smile". I have basketball games on Weds but they're not til 7:30 or 8:30 so I get antsy waiting around. Going to start going to the show to kill time. Might see Halloween Ends , also. Loved the original 2 Halloween movies. They got silly when Michael became indestructible. I think Jamie even decapitated him in one?

Here's some more:
CHUD, House, Creepshow, Tales from the Darkside, Children of the Corn, Tales from the Crypt for some low budget fun!
The Fly (old and new) , Final Destination series and of course, all the Nightmare on Elm Street movies (especially the ground breaking first one.

Spuzz Thank you. I've seen all except (I think) CHUD, the new The Fly, and any of the Final Destinations. The old The Fly is one of my favorites and I really didn't see the need for a remake (same with the original Nightmare on Elm Street - which ranks as one of my all time favorites). I haven't seen Children of the Corn since it came out. I remember liking it then and it's about time for a re-watch. Going to look and see if I have access to CHUD and Final Destination on services that I have available. Edit to add - CHUD is on Amazon Prime. So I'll watch it in the coming days.

Fright Night
One reason I like these types of movies is there is usually an actor that is now well known but was not at the time of the movie, or, there is a known actor but he/she is out of their usual element.

I've always liked her in anything I've seen her in, but particularly as Marcy. She brought a great and funny perspective to the straight newlywed and then the jaded divorcee with her boy toy Jefferson. 😆 Enjoyed her turn in Fright Night and also Roddy McDowall in his over the top way.

Looks like Final Destinations 1 and 2 are going to be on IFC Oct. 29th. Got the DVR set.

Just watched a strange old movie that I recorded off TCM last week called The Hypnotic Eye (1960). While far from horrifying, it was an interesting movie that even invites the audience into the experience.

I’ve always liked horror / scary movies. As a kid one of the few channels we had every week had horror movies on. I think it was called Creature Feature. Lol

Used to watch the Outer Limits and Twilight Zone as well. I think as a kid it was fun getting scared / getting that creepy feeling, but knowing it wasn’t real. However, I’ve always liked true crime as well.

Was a kid on Cape Cod when the Boston Strangler murders (early to mid 60’s) were going on. In 6th grade (1967) we took a trip to the town library.

They told us we could pick out a book to take home to read. I picked out the book The Boston Strangler. They told me I was too young to read that. 😏

30 years later the Haverhill City library was having a book sale of older books. I bought the book The Boston Strangler for .50 cents. Finally got to read it. Lol. I did see the movie in 1968 with Tony Curtis and Henry Fonda though. 😯

Creepshow (1982) - a great romp down memory lane with Leslie Nielsen, Ed Harris, Tom Atkins, Adrienne Barbeau, Ted Danson, Hal Holbrook, and E.G. Marshall. Stephen King wasn't too bad either. I've probably seen it 2 or 3 times over the years, but it's been awhile. Leslie Nielsen could play evil with the best of them.

Another low budget series from the 80's is Critters.
Fairly well known cast of B actors ( some known then, some known now)
Good for a laugh.

Spuzz I watched that back in the day - probably on VHS. Don’t remember much about it now though.
