Five Nights at Freddy's (2023)
Did end up getting to see this with my daughter, and son, last night. It's mostly tame at a PG13 rating and the movie requires some knowledge of the video game lore to make sense. Fortunately, my daughter caught me up on that over time even though I've never played the game.
She thought it was great, my son and I thought it was ok. Kind of boring in spots as there is a very repetitive sequence that, while important to the storyline, probably could have easily been reduced without much change to the story. The end, and some of the plot does not follow the game story exactly (according to my daughter), but the overall foundation is the same. This is one of those movies that feels like a great half-hour story was stretched out to make a movie with a lot of filler used as exposition. Sometimes that works well if done in an artistic manner with interesting characters, but the side characters were over-the-top weird. I'm guessing they were staying faithful to the game, but the weirdness didn't really add anything interesting to the film. There were a couple of funny scenes and the animatronics do make for some pretty fearsome monsters. Daughter says there were two YouTubers that are famous for their game reviews in minor character roles. Their scenes were comedic, well written, and I thought were great inclusions into the movie.
