Well I found what I was doing that was causing the shanks. On short clubs I was putting my weight on my heels instead of the middle of the feet. Then as soon as I start to swing, my body was moving forward into balance. I went to the range to make sure and that was it. In fact now I'm hitting towards the toe, lol. At least those shots will play.
It happened to me now and then several years ago but never to this extent, and I forgot that was what was happening. I'm glad I remembered it now! Also, if I get my weight too far forward towards the toes, then during the swing my body moves back and I have toe hits. I have fought that a lot over the years. Maybe that's how I finally ended up on the heels.
My body knows where it's balanced during the swing but not at setup, I guess!
This game is hard.
