rsvman2 This is partially but not completely true. Dimple design, number, and placement can alter flight characteristics pretty significantly.
That's why I said 'basically the same' - there will always be minor differences between types of ball. The main determinants of distance/carry will be ball speed, launch angle and spin, with the design and construction of the ball having much less impact for most current/recent models of golf ball. (I suspect that there would be more potential for difference in performance if comparing a current-model golf ball against something designed 30+ years ago.)
