Even if a lot of players would move up to the most forward tee box, they would still take that long. They would still choose the wrong club, because 'I hit this club x# yards'. No, you do not; maybe 3/10 times, if, you are under a 10 'cap!!

Typhoon Any thought on why the Ping chart shows 30 more yards of carry than the LPGA averages for the same launch conditions? Same ball speed, launch angle, and spin, 218 carry vs about 250.

Typhoon No the AoA doesn’t matter in this case because the numbers are the results. The ladies have 140/13.2/2600 and carry 218. Ping’s chart says 140/13.2/2600 gives 250 carry. Actually the ladies AoA is more efficient anyway.

DonM Gotta be missing something in one or both charts. Numbers shouldn’t be that far apart.

Liked real quick, pain in the ass using the phone… the Ping chart doesn’t say carry only like the Trackman chart. That might be it.

Another unmentioned variable. What about the ball used? I would assume a Pro v1 would have different carry #'s to a Pinnacle Gold?

garyt1957 I think that the type of ball would only really affect launch conditions (e.g. the Pinnacle Gold is likely to spin less on wedge shots) - don't have anything to back this up, but I suspect that there will be little difference in ball flight between types of ball for a given set of launch conditions.

I don't know either but I've always heard the Pro V1 spins more than a non urethane distance ball and slow swingers will lose distance off the driver with it. So if you get say 130 ball speed at 13* launch I believe it would carry less than a distance ball at the same parameters?

How many cars actually get the mpg advertised on the window sticker? They test them in machines under perfect conditions. Same with golf moniters. I have never seen one of these equipment review outfits test a batch of drivers head to head on an iron Byron. Wonder what the difference would be. The only way is for an individual is to test clubs live on a golf course but the industry has no interest in that.

That's my case. Pro V1 is not for me. 2-piece balls go farther for me.

garyt1957 My post was intended as 'once the ball is in flight, it doesn't matter how it's constructed' - in other words, a urethane ball launching at (say) 130mph/13°/2500rpm will have basically the same flight as a distance ball with the same launch conditions.

The difference will come in what happens to create those launch conditions - as you say, a urethane-covered ball is likely to spin more.

Hardly any difference for me. I choose based on feel and how they come off the putter.
Can't stand a clicky, hard feeling off driver or putter. At this point, golf is about enjoyment. 😉

MartinD This is partially but not completely true. Dimple design, number, and placement can alter flight characteristics pretty significantly.

I haven't played since August. I can't remember which ball I played. 😟

I just looked and I was playing Titleist True Feel yellow and Srixon Soft Feel Tour yellow. I also found an unopened box of TF Hammer Control.

Ill be 73 this golf season and like many of you I've lost a lot of distance. My biggest loss of distance happened after my three back surgeries. I used to be able to get out over 300 yards most any time I wanted to if not hitting into the wind.
As of two seasons ago I was doing good to be at or over 200 yards. Then a year ago in March I feel and partly dislocated my left shoulder. I also tore my biceps tendon and ligament and my rotator. I had surgery and missed the whole golf season last year. I'm raring to get back on the course this season but I have no idea how it will go. I still haven't swung a club at a golf ball and am still a little restricted on my back swing and follow through. I hated not being to hit consistently over 200 yard and don't know what I'll do if it falls off more than that this year. I can't imagine quitting playing for good but I guess it's a possibility if I'm no longer having fun playing. When the weather straightens out I guess I'll find out.

I'll just say, if you go out and start shooting 100+, it will give incentive to then 'break 100'. There.... comes the fun, again!!

You’d be surprised how easy it is to fill your old golf time with other things. You won’t even miss it once you’re busy with something else.

I've usually broken 100, sometimes into the 80's (as of last time I played) but it's not much fun shooting 100+.
