Maltby iron questions

My STi irons have the leading edges too high off the ground. I have a TS2 6 iron, and that sole is great. Thin, lower, but not sharp.

Is the TS1 sole the same?

Is the STi2 sole something in between the TS1 and the STi? Is it closer to one or the other?

Looking for low COG, decent forgiveness, and the lower leading edge, but not sharp as the TE & DBM. What are your guys experiences with TS1 and STi2?

The Acer XV Pros are in the running too. Don’t have MPF stats on them but they basically fit the bill, but maybe more bounce than I really want.

I’m not sure. I’ve never hit or seen a TS1. I wish I could be of more help.

Don, I don't recall much bounce difference between the TS1, TS2 or STi2. Pretty comparable. The TS1 sole is a bit thinner than the other two, but not crazy different.

In the "how close are they" question, I'd put them here....

TS1 xxx TS2 xx STi2 which says the STi2 is a little closer to the TS2 than the TS2 is to the TS1.

Is there any way you could take your STi heads and do a custom grind to them?

I have the TS1 heads. You know how unforgiving and hard the AZ ground is. The leading edge works very well for me.

Mattyv Yeah that’s what I’m up against in Texas. Those big forgiving soles are no bueno.

STi = killed/blunted leading edge AND more bounce overall.

TS1/2 = rounded leading edge, trailing edge (rocker sole), not much.bounce. TS1 narrowest sole followed closely by TS2. Leading edge sits pretty close to the ground.

STi2 = rounded leading edge, trailing edge, even more so they the TS2. Sits right on the ground. Not much bounce per spec. Wider sole then all but not by much.

XV Pro more bounce a little relief on leading edge but not much.

All a bit different. But those rocker soles really work well with my steep swing.and get through the turf. The TSi2 has a LOT of sole relief. Flip it upside down and look/compar vs. other irons. Almost too much relief. I'd give the slight edge to the TS2, they were amazing. STi2 worked but in ould still take a healthy divot. enough with the killed.leading edge and more bounce.to be serviceable. XV Pro, just enough bounce and a smidge of round on the leading edge to make it serviceable. I forget sole width on them but close to all the others. Played for al.kst a year and they are a solid iron.

ode You’re steep, I’m shallow. I have to be able to get down through the ball without fighting the soles. It sounds like the TS1 or 2 might be the best of the Maltbys.

These M-05s might be a good experiment for your conditions. You can always supplement with the current TE Forged if they work out.

The TE's might be a good option as well. Same as the DBM'S. I think my DBM'S were a bit more forgiving than my TS1's.

DonM too bad you couldn't demo them all to know for sure, but yeah likely the TS2 but you'd have other options too, as noted above and the KE4 Tour might be worth a look.

Agree. The TE's (M05) are very forgiving forged irons and feel good doing it. On hardpan, they are
more desirable than the TS-1 from my experience.

ode I have a TS2 6 iron head. Need to try it here. I’d probably prefer the lower cog and more spin of the TS1, if they are forgiving enough.

Edit: I did bend them 1° strong which removed 1° of bounce.

I have hit the TS2 and STi2, and find both are fine for the turf we have here in Birmingham, which is much wetter than what you have.
I can send you a STi2 head to try if you'd like

The Acer XV Pro is a sleeper. It's a very solid clubhead. Underrated IMO. I don't think the clubface design will be similar to the Maltby TS designs, tho.
