These M-05s might be a good experiment for your conditions. You can always supplement with the current TE Forged if they work out.

ode You’re steep, I’m shallow. I have to be able to get down through the ball without fighting the soles. It sounds like the TS1 or 2 might be the best of the Maltbys.

The TE's might be a good option as well. Same as the DBM'S. I think my DBM'S were a bit more forgiving than my TS1's.

DonM too bad you couldn't demo them all to know for sure, but yeah likely the TS2 but you'd have other options too, as noted above and the KE4 Tour might be worth a look.

Agree. The TE's (M05) are very forgiving forged irons and feel good doing it. On hardpan, they are
more desirable than the TS-1 from my experience.

Edit: I did bend them 1° strong which removed 1° of bounce.

I have hit the TS2 and STi2, and find both are fine for the turf we have here in Birmingham, which is much wetter than what you have.
I can send you a STi2 head to try if you'd like

The Acer XV Pro is a sleeper. It's a very solid clubhead. Underrated IMO. I don't think the clubface design will be similar to the Maltby TS designs, tho.

DonM ST-i irons have more bounce than other Maltby irons and if the lofts have been adjusted weak the bounce will increase proportionately.

sdandrea1 Same face shape. TS2 slightly larger. Similar offset. TS2 thicker top line. Soles and leading edges are different which will make for a good test.

The other thing about the STi, it's narrow at the heel and gets wider from there, medium,ish in the middle and wide,ish at the toe. With my toe mishit tendency, it worked well for that!

ode Oh yeah, they are a great design. The first big soles I’ve ever been able to get along with. And I might go back to them once the grass starts growing and being watered. But it doesn’t get lush/soggy like northern courses so I am probably better off going to a more normal design.

@pellmell I have a set of the XV Pros. Just not the right shafts. Once I reshaft them I think they’ll do what I’m looking for. I’ve got one ready to test. Kinda want to splurge on the high end Maltbys but they have to be better for me.

I can sum up the TS2 in one word.

WOW.

I just… I mean…. Wow. I know this is new technology and all that. I didn’t think it would matter with my barely R flex speed. The thing bombs it far and high. Did I mention high?

The feel is lovely. The range ball felt like a Wilson Zip. No funny sounds either.

Time to build the set.

The XV Pro was fine. But who cares.
