So, aside from BDC, who's going to the Saudi League? A lot of chatter on this subject recently...

But let’s just say the organizations that compose the OWGR aren’t exactly friendly towards the LIV Tour. Here’s the list of the eight current members of the OWGR Board that will vote on whether LIV players get points:

Chairman – Peter Dawson, The R&A
Augusta National Golf Club - Buzzy Johnson
DP World Tour - Keith Pelley
International Federation of PGA Tours - Keith Waters
PGA of America - Seth Waugh
PGA TOUR - Jay Monahan
The R&A – Martin Slumbers
USGA – Mike Whan

Let’s break down how a few of those people feel about the LIV Tour, shall we?

Jay Monahan banned all LIV participants from playing on the PGA TOUR this morning.
Keith Pelley begged DP World Tour golfers not to play, and still might ban the ones that did.
Keith Waters works for the DP World Tour too.
Buzzy Johnson represents Augusta National, who traditionally invites all previous major winners to their club each year for the Masters ... but didn’t send LIV President Greg Norman his invite this year.
Seth Waugh has said LIV Golf isn’t “good for the game.”

It’s not all bad though: The USGA’s Mike Whan did allow participants that were previously exempt to play in the U.S. Open at Brookline next week.

It appears that LIV Golf Tour is the absolute best thing that could have ever happened to the PGA Tour players.
Might be some now come back, asking for reinstatement, much like an Amateur can after turning Pro. 🤔

The 'sign up' money is not really that big of a draw for some. And now, may be even less of an attraction to the top collegiate players coming through. Sponsors will be looking for new names, to replace the old. If a few can grab $80M/yr. like Rory, there are no temptations for going LIV. It's why Rory can be so mouthy. Backing China instead of Saudi Arabia.

With today's announcement I agree. Without the LIV stuff those end of year events don't happen.

They had to do something like this. Who knows where it goes from here. Again, the only way the PGA Tour can compete with the LIV model is for them to end being a charitable non profit.

Rory has taken on the mantle of being the John Snow (Game of Thrones reference) of the PGA Tour. Not sure who Greg Norman would be. Maybe the Night King. lol

Sneakylong I'd have to look up all the Federal rules on non-profits, but I thought you had to be at $0 at year's end. And they have not been with all that money in their pockets.

Not sure how all that works. The PGA Tour charitable contributions include all donations / contributions given locally at each tournament. How the money gets donated varies with each tournament earmarking where the money goes.

I think they are allowed to have several years of operating expenses tucked away. There are always many ways to spend money of course. If the execs salaries already look high, the organization can lease them all Mercedes cars and pay for expensive "retreats". There are varying definitions of profit.

Par4QC - I remember observing some planning for an organization many years ago and there was a concern about the big bank balance earmarked for their reserves. They were able to show blue prints or an artist's rendition for a new headquarters building under discussion.That passed muster.

Sneakylong Real question is, how do they use 'charitable contributions' to beef up purses? imo, they can't, so where, all of the sudden, did they find all this money?? These golfers must be blind. All that TV money has been just sitting around.

So one of the things I enjoyed about the PGA Tour is that the players had to earn their paychecks. If they had a bad year they did not get paid as much(from the events). See if you would get a MLB, NFL MLB or NHL player to commit to that. I admired this aspect of the sport. With LIV this is no longer the case. I get it from a players perspective but as a fan, I have lost respect for those making the move to LIV.

Technically, yes, but in reality, that concept disappeared ages ago, when the big name sponsors started paying big money. The players are rich as long as the sponsors pay for outside the ropes commitments.
Fowler has done jack shit his entire career and he could live off what he has now, and then some, from Puma alone.

Also, I keep reading that LIV members have to "sign up" or sign a contract for a certain amount of events or years?
Does that mean if they don't live up to their billing, these contracts don't get renewed or offered up again?
As in, they lose their LIV tour card (as there is no publicly stated minimum standard of qualification so far) to be on that tour.
If so, they would certainly have to earn their next contract offer, just like all the Pro Sports basically do.

Speaking of watered down, how will the PGA "sprinkle" these new events into their schedule?
Does this mean other events that "unfortunately" fall before or after them, now get less of the big names in their fields?
What's the fall out from that?
Does the PGA "re-do" the event commitments of the big names to force them to play more often?
On the surface, these new events look like this would deter ship jumpers, but, if it "forces" players to play more often then what? LIV would still look more inviting.
