rsvman2 For a long time the LPGA played mostly 54-hole events. I'm kind of surprised that the macho ego of PGA players isn't bruised by shortening tournaments from 72 holes to the length most associated with a women's golf league.

Pretty sure that extra day off will assuage any egos

There are a lot of reasons to dislike the idea of the LIV tour, but the fact that it is 'an exhibition' isn't one of them, imo. It's all an exhibition

Well you could say that about all sports for that matter, but the PGA Tour has the history and records to look back on. Who has the most wins, won the most money, most majors. When whoever wins the first LIV tournament will have none of that, and in my opinion it won't be around long enough to develop a history, hence the exhibition. Nobody will care who's #1 on the LIV.
Obviously sports in general are pretty meaningless in the greater scheme of life in general so sure even things like the Super bowl and World Series could be considered just exhibitions but in reality they're not. Kinda like porn, you can't define it but you know it when you see it

Shame on you! Do you not know that is where all children's 'heroes/idols' come from, people they look up to/emulate? How would we raise them properly, without sports?

garyt1957 I would make the argument that they are all exhibitions, even the US Open and the Super Bowl, and Wimbledon, and the Stanley Cup, or whatever other championship anybody reveres.
They have no intrinsic meaning. They are only important because you attach importance to them. But they don't actually have any intrinsic meaning.
If we all decided, for example, that the Valero Texas Open was more important than the US Open, it would be more important automatically, not because its relative value changed, but because we made the decision that it was more important.
They are all exhibitions. Some people attach a lot of value to them, but they don't have any value beyond what we decide to attach to the them.

So, these fields are set in size right? What happens when more players commit then they are allowing for the tournament? Do they choose who to pound sand even though they left their current tour?

azgreg plenty of names they can choose from as far as less desirable. I suspect they could add them to the qualifiers and whoever does not make the cut goes home (I.e. x amount of spots go to qualifiers). And what are they gonna do, talk back to the Saudi's .... I think not!

KCee This is something I've been thinking about, the caddies.
They are really going to get a raise in pay, with the 'no cut/last place120K'. Going to be around a min. raise of $6K per event for them. Plus, they are getting the perks also, free everything! But, separate hotel than their players.

Par4QC Caddies only get a % on a win usually not every tournament the player cashes a check. Now, if their guy wins, Bingo!

All of it is just (potential) entertainment - if you are so inclined. Baseball was called a 'pastime' and golf a 'game'. etc.
The only reasons we take sports seriously are fan worship and $$$$$. JMO

The caddies at LIV events have it good too. Not only do they potentially get a nice commission off an enormous purse, but all of their expenses are paid by LIV. Spoke to one who caddies on European Tour and it includes travel and lodging, shuttle to the course, meals

This article says they get 10% for a win, 7% for a top 10 and 5% for finishing below that. Plus they get between $1500 and $3000 a week in salary and have to pay their own expenses. I’m sure there’s variations of this.

Some (maybe all?) get 'bonus' if player makes cut, then would also get another 5% of winnings. All on top of base salary.

Par4QC. It's not about being cheap. You can pay a caddy $100k a year. I don't think that's being cheap. Recently saw an article that more than a few caddies are now on a salary, no % unless a win.
