So, aside from BDC, who's going to the Saudi League? A lot of chatter on this subject recently...

Spuzz heard that one to... ugh...I've always like RF, despite his goofy dress early on and not showing up in the clutch he seems like a decent kid with a good head on his shoulders. I dunno we'll see if this "good" for the game as some of these guys are suggesting. I do not see it as such....good for their own interests and pocketbook, for which I do not blame them for jumping ship. This is like a Black Mirror episode only re $ inst ad of technology!

I agree.
However, he's got a growing family and his golf game sucks (No US Open again)
He can't keep getting by on name only. At some point his sponsors are going to cut bait.

PA-PLAYA Anyone who thinks the LIV will survive beyond a season or two is off their rockers.

I think under normal circumstances where the market decides it probably wouldn't survive.

But because the Saudi Royal family has a bottomless pit of money to throw at it, (it) could survive even though by any normal measure of success it probably would not be considered successful.

The Saudi Royal family is only in this for one reason and making money is not one of them.

Plus there probably is a saturation point for golf on TV. With the PGA Tour, DP World Tour, LPGA Tour, Champions Tour and Korn Ferry Tour etc..

And with LIV only televised on social media as of now I think the audience will be small. I like watching golf, but don't watch a lot of what's offered on TV as it is.

Also, I learned a fun fact. lol The LIV is the Roman numeral for 54 because they'll play 54 hole events. Just in case anyone cares. 🙄

Sneakylong For a long time the LPGA played mostly 54-hole events. I'm kind of surprised that the macho ego of PGA players isn't bruised by shortening tournaments from 72 holes to the length most associated with a women's golf league.

I mean, golf is just a game, amd golfers are just playing it. It's it like playing golf is providing anything besides entertainment. Is it?
There are a lot of reasons to dislike the idea of the LIV tour, but the fact that it is 'an exhibition' isn't one of them, imo. It's all an exhibition

Well you could say that about all sports for that matter, but the PGA Tour has the history and records to look back on. Who has the most wins, won the most money, most majors. When whoever wins the first LIV tournament will have none of that, and in my opinion it won't be around long enough to develop a history, hence the exhibition. Nobody will care who's #1 on the LIV.
Obviously sports in general are pretty meaningless in the greater scheme of life in general so sure even things like the Super bowl and World Series could be considered just exhibitions but in reality they're not. Kinda like porn, you can't define it but you know it when you see it

Shame on you! Do you not know that is where all children's 'heroes/idols' come from, people they look up to/emulate? How would we raise them properly, without sports?

garyt1957 I would make the argument that they are all exhibitions, even the US Open and the Super Bowl, and Wimbledon, and the Stanley Cup, or whatever other championship anybody reveres.
They have no intrinsic meaning. They are only important because you attach importance to them. But they don't actually have any intrinsic meaning.
If we all decided, for example, that the Valero Texas Open was more important than the US Open, it would be more important automatically, not because its relative value changed, but because we made the decision that it was more important.
They are all exhibitions. Some people attach a lot of value to them, but they don't have any value beyond what we decide to attach to the them.

So, these fields are set in size right? What happens when more players commit then they are allowing for the tournament? Do they choose who to pound sand even though they left their current tour?

azgreg plenty of names they can choose from as far as less desirable. I suspect they could add them to the qualifiers and whoever does not make the cut goes home (I.e. x amount of spots go to qualifiers). And what are they gonna do, talk back to the Saudi's .... I think not!
