Hit a Mavrik SZ tonite

One of our members was playing on the sim tonite. He hands me his driver and says “here, how far do you think you can hit this?… 275?” I saw it was a Mavrik. Felt light but really nice in comparison to the driver I was using. I hit it nice and was surprised it went 295. I looked at it, he was fit for it. Nice Speeder stiff shaft on a Mavrik SZ head. I’ve never really hit that head, nice sound and a pleasant surprise in distance.

Typhoon just for comparison porpoises, what were you hitting and how far can you hit it??

Typhoon how does it compare to the epic Max ls.....not much if a Callaway afficianado. But I think the SZ is the low spin model🤔

Given enough swing speed, there are no short hitting drivers in this era. Get the right shaft and loft to optimize and go. Ho-ing is still fun, tho

sdandrea1 I said “suprised” because It didn’t feel/sound like I hit it well. Funny thing to is the guy was telling me how he got “fit” for the driver. He’s almost a foot taller than me and hits a high ball🙄.

Ho’ing for me is not fun because it makes me feel like a fool. Everything goes the same distance….it’s like going out everyday and buying another screwdriver.

ode I didn’t get to hit them side by side Ode, sorry. Would have loved to since the guy that has the epic max LS was there as well. I was just walking by the SIM and the guy said, “here, hit this for me.”

I got home and googled max LS vs. Mavrik SZ . Watched a TCG and a Michael Newton Video that showed the max LS was better all around but they thought it might not spin enough. Funny thing is I remember reading about the LS and Callaway saying it was higher spin than the SZ because people though the SZ heads were too low spinning.

Typhoon I've went thru a self imposed swing change the past few years. Think John Daly back swing (with about 20 mph less of speed😷). I saw a pic of me at the end of my back swing and was horrified....long back swing with bent left arm. Been working on shortening it ever since. Started with the irons, then the hybrids, and now fwy. and driver at the if this year. Much more consistent, easier to control. Loss of distance is there but no where near as much as I thought....and when I hit my buddies Epic Max LS with the stiff MMT it was super consistent. Last time I used a 45+" driver with a 60,s gram shaft was 🤔 a long time ago. Had to dig deep in the closet to find a driver with similar spec, but I found one and have been hitting it well. I am super excited about this as it opens up a lot of options for the big stick! I thought the Epic Max LS feel/sound was really good!

Typhoon I had tried Mavrik Max, Mavrik SZ and Epic Max LS at the same time and for me the SZ seemed too low spin. I would have liked to have tried all the models in different lofts though. I was not on a launch monitor, but at our club's range with various pro shop demos so not everything was available. On the plus side, I got to hit a lot of balls and actually see where they went.
