Ours went up 10 cents last week and another 10 cents this week. Now $3.55 a gallon. Thanks _ _ _! Come on man, this is getting ridiculous!

azgreg Clever, but the issue is being oversimplified. We aren't just paying more money to fill up our gas tanks. Gas is also used to fuel the trucks that deliver goods to our stores. The extra price of that gas will be added to our food cost and the cost of other goods.
So it adds up a lot more then just an extra ten bucks or whatever every time you fill up your tank.

Oil got to an all time high of $147 a barrel in July 2008. Not there yet, but wouldn't be surprised given world events we see that record broken.

SVonhof Lots of things changed, some good as wages improve. Taxes change to pay for roads--supposedly. My state made a change gas tax-wise that hurts more. Got away from a simple gas tax to tax per overall expense, such as a tax on goods, no longer by the gallon.

What changed? Just a wild guess, but maybe the largest country in Europe being invaded by Russia.😏
Mix that in with some price gouging and here we are.

Wonder how long that number stays at 79%? After all we Americans aren’t known for our patience. We’re sitting back in our Lazy Boys watching this hell unfold on our TV like a Netflix drama.

Hard for us to imagine not having a war on this continent in like forever. There are many still alive in Europe who remember a hell like this.

Who knows how long this will go on? May be a good time to revisit Ted Kenned’s windfall profits tax. Just a thought if the price gouging gets out of control.

The "what changed" comment was geared toward, if the price per barrel is the same as it was at the previous peak in 2008, why is the price $1.50 more per gallon?

Inflation for wages, sure. But $1.50 (and rising)?

Very true, now we are gonna start seeing significant “fuel surcharges” added to a lot of things. Last truck of concrete I bought had a $25 charge added to it and that was a couple weeks ago.

The grain commodities are hitting all time highs. This will affect poor people all over the world. Last time this happened, the Arab Spring revolts overthrew several governments.
