Last night's Packers v 49ers OMG.

Never been about money for Brady. Always been underpaid. Took a hometown discount for years. He’ll go where the best opportunity to win is. And has a good offensive line and some weapons. Lol Right now the best place would be San Fran.

Again, he and Gronk were supposed to go to the Raiders, but Gruden stopped it. And we know he was going to Miami last year, but the Flores lawsuit fouled that up.

So my early favorites are the 49ers, Raiders and Dolphins.

DonM Jimmy G is just ALWAYS getting hurt. He might be a good quarterback but will anybody want a guy that’ll probably miss half the season? I think he can only be a back up…. And look what happened this year to that🙄

Absolutely. Or at least he should be. He's definitely one of the best 32 QB's in the NFL but I don't know his contract situation.

Garoppolo is a free agent after the end of this season - it's the last year of the 5-year deal that he signed in 2017 after the 49ers traded for him.

It'll be an interesting offseason for quarterbacks - quite a few guys in the high-end backup to mid-level starter range are likely to be available (a few off the top of my head - Garoppolo and Brissett have shown that they can be productive starters with a good team around them, White and Minshew have shown that they can do a decent job if given the opportunity and are young enough to maybe have potential for improvement). It wouldn't surprise me if at least one or two of these QBs ends up with at least the 2022 Winston contract (2 years, $28m) or even the current equivalent of the 2020 Bridgewater contract (3 years, $63m).

Why would the 49ers want Tom Brady in 2023? They have two young QBs on rookie contracts (Lance for 2 more years, Purdy for 3) - yes, the Brady of 2020 would be an upgrade over these guys, but the level of play that he's shown in 2022 suggests that this may not be the case in 2023. The cap space that would be required to sign Brady could also be put to other uses that will be of more long-term value - extending the contracts of players like Nick Bosa and Brandon Aiyuk, for example.

Because they want to win a Super Bowl and Brady is their best chance before things go down hill for them. Lance is a bust and Purdy can sit for a year or two at the most and then take over.
There's nothing wrong with Brady that a good offensive line won't fix. And he'll sign for relatively cheap to help them out.

That was a replacement for the last year of his previous contract - the 49ers could have released him with minimal penalty (as there was no guaranteed money remaining), so Garoppolo agreed to take less money with incentives to make up most of the difference if he ended up playing.

I think that we might have to agree to disagree on this one - while it's possible that Brady still has enough left to be the QB of a Super Bowl winning team, it seems to me to be very unlikely (given his level of performance this year, and the effects of aging that will eventually catch up to even him) that he'll be much (if any) better than a league average QB next year. It's also not just about the difference in performance between Brady and Lance/Purdy, as the financial side of things needs to be taken into account - even 'relatively cheap' is likely to be a contract for at least $25m for the year, compared to the $10m or so that Lance and Purdy will count against the cap in 2023.

Garappolo is talented enough to be a starter, for sure. My question was already raised by Typhoon, and that is, is he durable enough to be a starter. Do you want to put your franchise on the back of a guy who has missed as many games to injury as he has?

Does TB fit in with the 49ers and what they do offensively? IMO more of a reason he won't land there.

No one is going to buy/sign a QB just on name alone. And they want one that is going to be around for a few years, in their intentions of looking for one.

Jimmy G and Purdy are not going to be bumped down. Take that to the bank. A move as such would show total ignorance on the part of any owner/coach/GM.

Plus, in the New NFL, teams want running QBs, even when they have 1000 yd. backs on the team. (1000 yd. backs are meaningless, I realize, in a 17 game season)

Brady would have to choose to go to a team with a great O line.....and those teams already have really good QBs. A lot due to that fact. So, even if he isn't getting along with "something" in Tampa, he may well be staying. If they ask.
jmo, nothing against Tom, but he has not looked good all year, over all. Time may be up.

Maybe "delusional" was a strong, if not inflammatory term? Perhaps what was meant could simply be one's subjective bias - in being a fan? I do know that I'm not able to be objective about 'my' Eagles, even if I believe I've got more information about them based upon locale.
A concern I would have about the Vikings is more related to Kirk Cousins. Since entering the NFL in 2012, Kirk Cousins is 10-40 (. 200) against teams that finished the season with a winning record.

Everyone is definitely entitled to look at things in whatever manner makes sense to them for sure. For me, as I mentioned much further up n the thread, this is a team sport. There is no way I could ever make a statement that ‘KIRK is’, it’s always going to be ‘the TEAM is’. There are just way too many variables in play, throughout the entire organization, that factor into a W/L record. Surface data is always easy to scrape up to provide a high level, but it’s the deep dive into the data that tells that whole story.

Number 1 at $303 million in 22 seasons. Longevity has its benefits. Lol
Plus, Brady sacrificed at least $60 million by taking hometown discounts when he was with the Patriots.

Also, according to Steve Young and others Brady hasn’t lost any arm strength. Can still make throws he’s always made. Pro Football Focus had him as the MVP last year.

Not like Peyton who had a neck injury and couldn’t throw at the end. Eventually Brady will fall off the cliff.
But pundits have been made fools of prematurely predicting his demise. Maybe it’s this year.

But………. Maybe not……..

Imo Brady fits in the 49ers offense perfectly. He’d love what Christian McCaffery brings to the table. Deebo Samuel as well. And he has a Gronk in George Kittle at tight end.

Brady loves a back that can catch the ball. Had Jimmy White in New England. Also, loves a slot receiver like he had with Julian Edelman, Wes Welker and Troy Brown. Because Brady’s forte is getting rid of the ball quickly.

The Bucs don’t have a receiver who can separate. Both Evans and Godwin are possession receivers. Scotty Miller is a 4.3 speed guy, but can’t run routes. Only good on go routes. Antonio Brown could separate and run by people. That’s why Brady loved him.

The 49ers just lack a quarterback unless Brock Purdy proves to be it. Jimmy G. could get them there, but couldn’t get to the finish line. Brady knows how to get a good team across the finish line.

Not to mention the 49ers defense which is pretty, pretty, pretty good. Of any team out there the 49ers would be his first choice imo.
