professor The section of my post that you quoted started 'best QB available for Pittsburgh', which I meant as a player that they either have on the roster or are able to sign at this point in time. Their current rostered QBs are Mason Rudolph and Skyler Thompson - there are a few teams out there who have better backup QBs than either of those guys. The best free agent still available (excluding Rodgers) is probably Flacco (other free agent QBs are Wentz, Keenum, Stick, Huntley...)
Rodgers was roughly a league average starting QB last season, and there's a reasonable chance that he plays at a similar level in 2025 (if he does play) - yes, he's a year older (potentially significant for a player already in his 40s), but also a year further on from the Achillles tendon tear. I'm not saying that Rodgers would be a good option for the Steelers in the context of their chances of winning a Super Bowl (or even a playoff game), just that he's probably the best available if only considering what will happen on the field.
If, however, you take into account the potential off-field distractions, it may be better for Pittsburgh to go with a safe, uncontroversial known quantity in Rudolph even if that means that the offence is more limited than it would be with a better QB.
