I'm still wondering how that holds up in the post-season. No fumbles, no interceptions, and no punts. Seems like "thin ice" to me (pending whether one's a glass half-empty, glass half-full perspective). With their defense, how do the Lions hold up if/when they play a defense that; forces them to punt, forces turnovers? If they're winning by one score when their opponent did give them 2 additional possessions, I'm wondering how that's gonna go? I think the clock's ticking on Detroit. Not suggesting they're smoke and mirrors - lucky/fortunate like Kansas City. I think their injury situation is going to be exploited.

No, I didn't, and that was deliberate - I was making a related point that RB production is even more dependent on the situation around them than QB production.

What I read in your comments is the typical neglect of the obvious. Both positions require competency on the offensive line.
I think there's a "movement" afoot with a number of successful teams trending toward the running game for a variety of reasons. First, is setting the tone of the game - ball control (this in much the same way a basketball team might avoid a run and gun offense, due to their type of personnel and instead set the tone/pace with a half-court, slow-down offense). Second, defensive personnel have been moving toward smaller and faster and with a formidable offensive line, it's seeming more efficient to play more "smash-mouth".

sdandrea1 Do you ever go to the games? I did a preseason game once using Metro, then bus and some walk. Serious pain. Plus, about 20 years ago, cost $95 each for 2 tickets to preseason game.

Could you please point out where I said that this was not the case? From my original post:

MartinD For everything that we've posted in this thread about having the right players and structure around them being a significant factor in QB performance, that applies even more to running backs - RBs are simply not going to be productive/effective unless they have a good offensive line in front of them, talent at the other skill positions to stop the defence from loading up against the run, and a good offensive playcaller to give them the best opportunities to make plays.

Please do not insult me because you haven't read my post correctly.

Growing up, my Dad....who knew not a thing about sports/football, always said to 'be for the closest team'. We lived 200 mi. south of Chicago.
But dammit....we only lived 140 mi. east of St. Louis when the Cards were there.
Nothing of greatness from either locale anyway.😄

But with only 2 channels on TV, we could only pick up the Chicago games. Biased broadcasting, even back then!
