Par4QC I've never been sure what to think about Purdy. Seems the team was overflowing with such talent any QB could have been behind center. As long as they stayed healthy. This season though, is a bit telling.
He's just not worth what he's going to be offered. I've not seen him 'make something of nothing'.
I agree to a certain extent - you can't just put any QB in and expect to have a top-level offence, as has been shown when the 49ers have played QBs other than Garoppolo and Purdy, but the 49ers' offensive scheme and skill position players do make it much easier for a QB to be effective and productive. To me, there are a lot of similarities between Purdy and Tagovailoa, in that they've shown that they can be a good starting QB in the NFL, but their physical limitations mean that they're not able to reach the heights of the top-end QBs, and are going to struggle to carry an offence in the way that the best QBs can.
If Purdy does sign an extension that's near but not at the top of the market (i.e. in the $50-55m range), that feels like an overpay (in my opinion - thought the same for the Hurts and Tagovailoa extensions). If the 49ers could somehow get Purdy to agree to something like the Daniel Jones or Derek Carr contracts with a little bump to allow for cap inflation (i.e. mid to high 40s), that's probably closer to a reasonable value.
