Years back there was a little expose on how Donovan McNabb had this strange visual contraption built. He would wear it over his eyes to practice. It basically "flashed" cards in half-seconds that would obscure his vision. Yes, there is always at least one receiver of some sort wide-open - uncovered on every single passing play. But, one can't know what it's like to "keep your eyes downfield" while 4-7 elite behemoths are trying to end your career. Yeah, it's tough. So too are most QB's, they've got to stand-in and take that unprotected shot (albeit these days the rules have tried to protect QB's - unsuccessfully, I might add).

To some teams and players, a penalty, expulsion from a game, and/or fine is well worth getting a critical player from the other side out of play. I occasionally wonder if there isn't some off the books bonus money to encourage such things at times.

On the other hand, when a football player commits to a move, reversing or altering that move to avoid a change in direction by the other player's reaction is next to impossible.

garyt1957 QB is likely the hardest position in sports to play really well. I love when they show a play from ground level behind the QB and you can see how hard it is too see defenders. It's a wonder they don't throw many more INTs.

Very true. If you've ever been to an NFL game and sat ground level in the end zone it's amazing they can see down field. The other thing that's really noticeable is how quiet the play on the field is.

Same being at a baseball game. You look away for a second and you're lost as to what's going on because the crowd noise drowns out the sound on the field.

Buddy Ryan would do that! Also, it's interesting how some QB's get protected by the officials as if they're made of porcelain and others need to get pretty bashed in order to draw the flag. Those can be tough games if you've got not only an opponent but the Zebras as well. Listen, the Eagles got smoked, trounced, housed, whatever by the Niner's - I mean just blown out. It happens. But, just talking about officials (I won't blame a loss on officials), just making a point of one question. I watched DeVonta Smith get mugged on a long pass attempt Sunday. The defender simply ran him over as he was trying to come back to the ball. Then had to listen to Greg Olsen say it was right to be a "no call". That was utter nonsense.

johnnydoom remember Vikings/Saints playoffs when Favre was there. Gregg Williams was caught on tape saying something like get the head and the body will follow.....that might have just been tape of him in a different game that year, but I remember the tape; and "bounty gate"; and Peyton being suspended for a year. Forget what happened to Williams. IMO they both should have been blacklisted from coaching again. Favre took a beating that game!

Bountygate led to some changes!

But yes, I do agree. It has been the problem for a lot of teams this season/last draft. They simply have to quit looking at QBs 1st. Cannot be good if no one up front, or down field. Plus, look at the money saved by taking the QBs down the draft list.

Tom spoiled Belichick. Now Bill is getting exposed. Bill never spent any money on receivers. He even got Randy Moss on a really cheap deal.

And we have to remember that Tom took less money for years so they could pay for other talent. It's just Bill liked to spend it on defense.

I think you're seeing this play out in Kansas City. Patrick Mahomes got paid and didn't take a hometown discount. So now you're seeing he doesn't have the weapons to throw to.

Mahomes is so good he may overcome this, but as of now it's showing.

Sneakylong Reports are the Bears could go after Harbaugh.

They won't spend the money. He makes tons more now than what NFL head coaches are paid. Plus, he has winners. Hard to give up the 2 things he'd never have in Chicago.

Yup, rookies and newbies don't get the same degree of protection. Tom Brady was preserved in an invisible bubble.

Par4QC well I know many people (some of whom are not bear fans), see it differently. He is far from a star and it's a known fact stars get treated differently.

With Brady, if someone laid a finger on him, refs were all over the offender.
It's same scenario in NBA (from Jerry West to Jordan to today's stars.)

No high expectations, let's just see what he could do. Could never be any worse than recent years.

Sneakylong Last report I read was they put his contract talks on hold when the suspension hit. If he could get them a nat'l championship(won't!) he'd make bank for sure.

Sneakylong I heard on radio that the over under is 30, and that’s the lowest in years for an NFL game.
