Par4QC Bowl games are moot ventures for everyone but the schools coffers..
Then the rest of the players should also refuse to play. I'll grant you that the Duke's Mayo Bowl or the TaxAct Texas Bowl may not be a crowning achievement for Davis or anyone else on the team so why should anyone risk getting injured? Why not just go the extra mile and call for an end to spectator sports? Why should anyone get injured for our entertainment?
The school is part of the team and the coffers are important to everyone else associated with the school. He wouldn't have gone to Kentucky if he didn't think that was his best opportunity to move ahead. If he could sign with an NFL team today I agree that he should bypass the bowl and do it. I don't begrudge any employee of any organization for leaving their job for something that is better for themselves and their family. Ray effectively did that by jumping from Temple, to Vanderbilt, to Kentucky. But he can't join an NFL team before the bowl game, just like he couldn't bypass college altogether and go straight from high school even if he'd been ready and willing.
Both the school and the players are cashing in on each other. They got to this point in this season collectively and I would have greater appreciation for both sides if they finish collectively.
