A marquee match-up if ever there was one! Not!
The league didn't do too well with the broadcast schedule. I guess they also expected the Jets to be something this year with Aaron Rogers. Can't wait till we get to that point in the season when they start "flexing" games!

Not as much as it may seem for two teams at the bottom of the standings, as Chicago have Carolina's first-round pick in next year's draft (through the trade for the 1st overall pick this year).

MartinD If Chicago wins and Carolina goes on to lose all season, the Bears could have the #1 pick again. If Carolina wins, and wins a couple more, the Bears could drop way down with that trade pick.
The Bears do not want to lose this game.

Not that anyone in Chicago knows how to properly USE a #1 pick.

Before the game they had the #2 & #3 picks(if season ended). After the game they now are looking at #1 & #5(if season ended). Mathematically, they could end up with #1 & #2....no F'N way is that Carolina team beating anyone the rest of the year. The Bears looked like their horrible selves last night and Carolina still could not win. They have made a worse #1 pick in the draft than the Bears ever did(until possibly the '24 draft😉).

It must be killing Frank Reich to play nice and pump their QBs tires, especially on air and during the game. The kid is calm but he's an NFL dud already, imo.

Spuzz It is possible that he could fit into a west coast style offense with a bunch of underneath patterns. He has the skills and the temperament to be great, but he doesn't have vision or height. That was evident to me watching him in college since I am an SEC fan. He struggled to find 5 and 4 star receivers in a similar offense that Mac Jones and Tua Tagovailoa pushed up and down the field against any defense. Bryce made his reputation by extending plays under pressure in college, but he only had to do that because he lacked the ability to find receivers that were open, or could be "thrown" open, on the planned routes.

Somebody in scouting needs to be fired, but his drafting so high reeks of ownership meddling.
I only needed a couple of games to see he will struggle at the NFL level.
Doug Flutie was similar. Had to throw too many looping balls instead of ropes due to his height and needed clear lanes to throw in. Does not work in today's NFL, imo.

Although I will say that when drafted, the jury was still out on whether Jalen Hurts could successfully make the move up. Well, he did. Personally, beyond his physical skills, his dedication, work ethic, intangibles, and upbringing by a father who's a coach all spelled current success. Who knew...? 53'd pick in the draft. See 'ya Carson, take your country prima donna ass to LA. LOL That should be a good show...

Lineman in general are taller now. Exceptions will be few and far between, imo.

professor Jalen Hurts has exceptional running skills to go along with his good passing skills. That may get him to a Super Bowl win, or may not. It didn't get him to a national championship win (his team won, but it was evident that they wouldn't have if he played the 2nd half and it is because he lacked the vision (even though he has the height) in college. But he learned a lot sitting his third year behind Tua, and he learned more playing in Lincoln Riley's offense his last year. He's also improved a bit since he's become a pro. But relying on running skill has been an iffy proposition in the NFL. It worked one year for Wilson when he also had the best running back in his backfield and the best defense on his side. It almost worked for several other great running QB's, but they always came up just a bit short like Cam Newton. But, IMO, Cam never had a team as good as the one Jalen has now either. It might work for Jalen and this team.

Brees has two skills that Bryce does not (yet). He knows where the safeties are, or are likely to be, and he knows how to throw a single covered receiver open. Bryce has the accuracy and intelligence to do both, but hasn't shown any development in either since a freshman in college. Don't know why that is or if he's even aware of it. If he is aware, then he has hope. Bryce won't ever have the extra 2 inches in height that Drew has - how big a factor that is I don't know, but there is probably a threshold somewhere and Brees is closer to it than Bryce is.

CJ Stroud looks like he has "it"
The rest of the these newbies do not.
(Fields, Kyler Murray, Zach Wilson, Young, Mac Jones, Daniel Jones)
Maybe Bagent has some of "it", but we'll never know as long as he's a Bear.
Maybe Will Levis and Joshua Dobbs and Richardson as well. Jury still out on them

johnnydoom Bryce has a very small frame for a football player, that's for sure.
Can't imagine him surviving too many serious hits which I'm assuming are gonna arrive given the team he is on.

Brees also comes from "old school". How many years at Purdue? Must have had at least 5000, live-game passing attempts while there! And, pre-portal (which I believe sucks), he attended Purdue for 4 years, started at QB for three years. Try to get that from some diva-kid these days...
