johnnydoom Iām pretty much in the camp that if you use a scholarship to get a commitment from a player then it needs to be honored. I suppose you can kick them off the team, but the scholarship should still be carried through if the kid didnāt break the agreement.
My niece was a highly ranked softball player (along with other sports) when in high school. There were several colleges after her. My brother and her went the route of checking into a few of them, before making the choice. When they went in to discuss terms, they offered a full ride, 4 year deal for playing ball. My brother just said ....no....full ride for 4 years for her academic prowess only, and she will also play ball for you. Even back then they could take the scholarship away if you become unable to play.
She went on to be inducted into their HOF, and has had quite a career as a Doctor.
Forgot to mention she had been a straight A student for 12 years.
Academic scholarships can't be rescinded easily. Athletic types can be taken away tomorrow! Get! Out!
